Hey everyone!

Haven Social has fallen on the back burner as far as my projects go - though it probably shouldn't. We live in an an age of interconnected isolation. We yearn for human contact, yet contact is scarce; deep and meaningful connections become more and more rare. We pass eachother on the street and forget what could be. For those who have lived in isolation for extended periods of time, they know best the value of human connection.

I encourage you to create your own spaces - your own warm boroughs of light. They can only be created by people, and why not you? Find someone and put yourself out there. There is nothing more valuable than a friend, a lover, a compatriot, and of course family, chosen or otherwise.

I wanted to give people that space, but it's not in the cards for me right now.

The problem with social media as an interface for social life is that it alienates us from the actual act of socializing with an individual. It strips down to the bear minimum what it means to be having a social interaction, it strips it down to text and words. Social media can be a great tool for interacting with individuals in a more superficial sense, but it is no substitute for real life, face-to-face socialization. I'm not trying to paint social media as the devil. It has allowed people from around the globe to connect and form genuine friendships that even eventually come into the real world. That being said, it has allowed for the proliferation of parasociality and one-sided relationships that ultimately leave us feeling empty, like we know someone we don't.

Haven Social's mission is to provide an open and non-judgmental social environment for individuals to connect with one another, form meaningful relationships, and enhance their overall well-being. The goal is to create a welcoming and inclusive space where people can come to combat loneliness and isolation, and foster a sense of community through shared experiences and social interactions. Additionally, Haven Social aims to offer a range of services and amenities, such as a custom soda bar, to enhance the overall experience for its patrons.

What sort of things would you like to see at Haven Social? What sort of events would you like? What sort of activities? We want to do a food fair where you can try out things from local restaurants, how does this idea sound to you?

Haven Social will be a place where you can meet new people, create social ties, and have real meaningful relationships. You could treat it like a lounge where you're there just to hang out. However, the environment will be created specifically to encourage socialization. There will be board games, gaming consoles, communal sitting areas, private sitting areas, a bar, and possibly an area for movie viewings. There are more things I want to do but that's the crux of the idea. It's a place for people to enjoy themselves together.
