Well everyone - now that I have had a chance to come back from all the animosity from yesterday’s cancellation there are a few things I want to let you all know. (Sorry if it’s long) Most of you may be unaware that for us, Wings & Wheels is a 2 day weekend with 3 events. We have 2 events on Friday (a Pathways program for middle & high school students - all invited. This year we hosted 185). That night, open to the public is a catered dinner show with a live band, this year 175). Our Saturday event (without rain) sees about 13K attendees.
Our committee & volunteers work EXTREMELY HARD & LONG HOURS for DAYS to get everything ready. Our planning starts a year out. If ANYONE thinks after all this that it is EASY to make the difficult call to cancel, has NO IDEA what agony we all went through yesterday. After everything went up for the event, we all then had to work in the rain to take everything down. NO ONE SEES THIS.
The other aspect - The Chamber which is supportive of ALL businesses & whether you know it or not, is also a small business. We put out thousands of dollars ahead of these events, which we don’t recoup. The Delaware Aviation Museum Foundation put out thousands of dollars to get ready. If you think we are not sympathetic to our vendors, please think again. For me, this is an event I am passionate about and was reduced to tears when we made the call and after how I was treated by vendors.
I am CELEBRATING AND THANKING ALL OF OUR VOLUNTEERS, our SPONSORS who support us every year AND the many vendors who reached out with understanding!
THANK YOU to Sussex Academy, Sussex Central High School, Sussex Technical and Holy Cross Girls' High School for sending your kids, all our vendors and the to Lighthouse Catering and the Matthew Street Band for our Friday night fun event!
We hope you understand and will be back with us next year 10/1 & 2.
