Created in 1974 by pastry chef Anica Džepina at the iconic Hotel Moskva in Belgrade, the Moskva Šnit (Moscow Slice) is a refreshing, protected fruitcake that has become a world-famous symbol of Serbian confectionery. 🍍🍒🍑

This signature dessert features layers of almond and hazelnut sponge filled with a specialized custard and buttercream, complemented by a balanced mix of sour cherries and pineapple.
Despite its name, the cake has no historical ties to Russia but was developed as an original brand for the hotel’s new café concept, quickly gaining popularity among locals and international celebrities like Robert De Niro and Indira Gandhi. Today, it remains the hotel’s most ordered item, with over 20 tons produced annually to satisfy both café guests and global delivery.
