Fall color is starting to show around Ga***rd, but the best is still to come! According to Pure Michigan’s latest Fall Color Report, peak color is expected around the middle of October.

So, how should you enjoy the season? While you’re here, take a drive through Pigeon River Country. Go early in the morning or near dusk, when you have a better chance of hearing the elk.

We also love Wilderness Valley Farm, about 20 minutes from Comfort Inn and Suites/MainStay Suites. Meet the yaks and miniature donkeys, hand-feed the reindeer and hop on a hayride. The farm is open Saturdays from 10:00 AM–5:00 PM, with a different event each week:

Apple Fest happens in Charlevoix from October 9–11. Take a drive to downtown Charlevoix to enjoy locally grown apples, c***r, baked goods, food booths, an arts and crafts show, and children’s activities.

Take a scenic drive out to Boyne Mountain on October 10–11 and 17–18 for Skitoberfest. Walk across SkyBridge Michigan for some of the most incredible fall views, then enjoy some live music, various children's activities, henna, and some strolling magic. It's a great way to get ready for the upcoming ski season.

Take a beautiful drive from Ga***rd to Boyne Mountain and experience SkyBridge Michigan. Stretching 1,200 feet across the mountain and 118 feet above the valley below, the views are incredible any time of year, but fall makes them even better.

Ride the chairlift to the top, walk across the bridge, and take in miles of Northern Michigan scenery. And if you’re feeling brave, look straight down through the glass section in the middle!

🦌 Where to See the Elk in Ga***rd

September is one of the best times of year to see Ga***rd’s elk! During the fall rut, the elk are more active, and you may even hear the bulls bugling across the fields and forests.

For a chance to see wild elk, head to Pigeon River Country State Forest, where you’ll find designated elk viewing areas throughout the forest. Early morning and around dusk are your best times to go.

For an easier option, visit Ga***rd’s Elk View Park, just minutes from downtown, where you can see the city’s elk herd from public viewing areas.

🚤 Saturday, July 4 | Otsego Lake Boat Parade
Celebrate Independence Day with the annual boat parade from 3:00–4:00 p.m. along Otsego Lake. It's a fun local tradition that's perfect for the whole family.

🎇 Saturday, July 4 | Johannesburg Celebration
