Buddy B’s TO CLOSE AFTER 28 YEARS SERVING THE REGION'S FAVORITES
Garyville, LA - After opening June 1, 1998, over twenty-eight years ago, Buddy B’s will close its doors for the last time on May 29th, just three days shy of its 28-year anniversary. Buddy B’s is named after Buddy and Bridget “B” Boe, children of the original owners, Fege and Gary Boe. Buddy purchased the business from his parents in 2021 and Bridget serves as operations manager.
“Our family cannot begin to thank the community, everyone who ever worked with us at Buddy B’s and the customers who came day after day knowing they’d get a great meal and huge smile as they stepped through the door. To say we’ve survived and achieved success against all odds for restaurants in America is an understatement…Buddy B’s has operated through freezes, industrial expansions and explosions, labor and food shortages, COVID-19, and multiple hurricanes including Hurricane IDA that put a tree through the roof. Through all the years, our team kept showing up to serve the region’s favorites and preparing meals for emergency responders and public officials during emergencies, floods, and hurricanes…sometimes using flashlights and propane burners,” said Buddy Boe.
Over the years, Buddy B’s has fed thousands of locals, industry workers, and tourists at the local dive located on River Road in Historic Garyville. Originally famous for its one-pound Kajun Burger, Buddy B’s quickly introduced the area to Fege Brownies and Gary’s GumBoe which are frequent requests by customers dining in the restaurant or catering orders for the area’s industries. Fege brought the Italian flavors to the Cajun spices put into every recipe by Gary, creating the unique menu that includes everything from Stuffed Bell Peppers to Lasagna.
“I grew up in my dad’s restaurant in Reserve flipping hamburgers, so cooking, serving, and making people smile through food has given me so much joy over the years. We’ve served some customers once as they visited our area and others who came every day for nearly three decades…adding inches to waistlines while bringing smiles to faces,” said Fege Boe, original owner of Buddy B’s.
Before closing day, the community is invited to get the last bite of their favorites to celebrate the flavors and memories of the last 28 years.
The team at Buddy B’s has changed over the years but several of the employees have been behind the counter for decades. Specifically, Barbara Delhommer who has been with Buddy B’s since day 1 in 1998. Many members of the Monica and Boe families have taken their turns working and helping out during busy times and emergencies.
“This decision was not an easy one. Buddy B’s is a local institution but restaurants are a tough business in good times and the past few years have been extremely difficult navigating the regional economy, local labor market and constantly increasing food prices. Buddy B’s has been a part of my life since I was 12 years old and our family is proud that we were able to provide a place for people to eat good food for 28 years,” said Buddy Boe, current owner.
Buddy B’s Restaurant is owned by Buddy Boe, son of the original owners Gary and Fege, and managed by Bridget Boe. Buddy also owns Ormond Manor and is Managing Partner of Cypress Physical Therapy.
