New chef. New stack. Very old recipe inspiration.

This week we’re serving up a Wojapi Shortstack (wo-ZHA-pee), topped with a seasonal blueberry and blackberry wojapi.

It’s also the first Stack of the Week from our new chef, Tyler, who chose a dish inspired by his family heritage.

A Bite of History: Wojapi is a traditional berry sauce originating with the Dakota and Lakota peoples of the Northern Plains, historically made with tart fruits like chokecherries. Our version blends blueberries and blackberries for a naturally sweeter twist.

Sweet, a little tart, and stacked high—which is pretty much how we like things here in Minnesota.

This Week’s Shortstack is SMEACHES

S’mores + peaches + pancakes = Smeaches.

A family tradition straight from our own kids that has officially made its way onto the cafe griddle. Proof that sometimes the kids really do have the best ideas. Please don’t tell them we said that.

Bite of History: The first known printed s’mores recipe appeared in a 1927 Girl Scout publication under the name “Some More.” Nearly 100 years later, we’re still finding new reasons to ask for some more.

Update -THE HOOD HAS BEEN REVIVED. 🚨

Apparently it just needed a little attention, some professional help, and a chance to vent.

WE’RE BACK OPEN! Come hungry — we’ve got some catching up to do.

- - - -

Earlier - Well… our hood vent has officially decided it’s Friday too.

Unfortunately, that means State Street Cafe will be CLOSED as we fix it.

We’re working on getting things back up and running as quickly as possible and will keep you posted and plan to re-open at 10am

Thanks for understanding, friends. 💗

The pancake of this week is a Strawberry Bourbon Cobbler. Sweet strawberries, buttery cobbler goodness, and a splash of bourbon—all stacked on fluffy pancakes. Basically summer with better decision-making.

BITE OF HISTORY- Did you know booze saved the berries? Before refrigeration, alcohol was one way to preserve a good fruit harvest. Colonial Americans soaked fruit in spirits—George Washington’s family even had a recipe for Cherry Bounce, made with cherries and brandy.

Turns out fruit + booze has been a good idea for a few hundred years.

We just added pancakes.

Sunday pancakes got a promotion to Pancake of the Week — because one day just wasn’t enough. More days. More chances. Same questionable commitment to chaos.

And we’re kicking things off with the MN Nice Shortstack: pancakes stacked with bacon + turkey, topped with an egg and a generous pour of holli sauce. Basically Minnesota nice, but with boundaries… and bacon.

BITE OF HISTORY - What is holli? Hollandaise is one of the five classic French “mother sauces,” traditionally made with egg yolks, butter and lemon. Despite the name—which translates roughly to “Dutch sauce”—the French have been claiming versions of it for centuries.

Around here, we just call her Holli. We’re on a first-name basis.

Come try this week’s stack while she’s around.

A little Garfield Days reminder: We’re CLOSED tomorrow!

Give us a break from flipping the pancakes and go eat someone else’s for a change.

Start with pancakes supporting the local church, grab a pork chop from the Garfield Fire Department, spend some time at the park, and enjoy Garfield Days.

We’re giving our crew the Saturday off to spend with their families, too.

Closed Saturday. Back Sunday with normal hours, hot coffee, and pancakes we actually have to make ourselves.

Have fun, Garfield — and support the folks who support our little community.

Now, our head chef is from South Carolina, and he’ll gladly tell you that not all peaches are created equal. According to him, the only peach worth bragging about is a Georgia peach. Around here, we’ll politely nod… then smother it in cream and let Minnesota decide. Today’s shortstack is Peaches n’ Cream.

Bite of History: Think peaches don’t belong in Minnesota? Think again. While our climate isn’t famous for peach orchards, Minnesota growers have spent decades developing hardy peach varieties that can survive our unpredictable winters. They’re still a rare treat here—which makes today’s stack feel a little extra special.

Swing in before they’re gone. We promise there won’t be any arguments over the last bite… unless the chef starts talking peaches again.

Next Saturday (8/8), we’re hitting pause.

We’ll be closed Saturday for Garfield Days—not because we don’t love serving breakfast, but because we believe great communities are built by supporting one another.

Start your morning with pancakes served by St. John’s Church. Grab pork chops from the Garfield Fire Department for lunch and make time for the ice cream social hosted by St. Luke’s Church. Spend some time at the park, enjoy the festivities, and make a few memories with family and friends.

We’re also giving our team a well-earned Saturday to do the same. Family-owned businesses understand that sometimes the best way to serve your community is to be part of it.

We’ll be here with our normal hours Friday and back Sunday morning with fresh coffee, hot pancakes, and plenty of stories from Garfield Days.

Have a safe, fun weekend, Garfield. We’ll see you Sunday.

Today's shortstack special is a New York Key Lime Cheesecake. Because apparently New York and Key West decided to meet on a pancake in Garfield.

Now we're wondering ... what would a true Minnesota Cheesecake look like? Wild blueberries? Maple? Lefse crust? Maybe a little cream cheese with a side of "you betcha." We'll let you settle that debate over breakfast.

Today's Bite of History - Did you know Theodore Roosevelt believed in starting the day with a hearty breakfast. Eggs, bacon, toast, coffee—and sometimes even a steak or chops. Turns out one of America's toughest presidents knew you shouldn't tackle the day on an empty stomach.

It's going to be a scorcher today. Stay hydrated, take it easy, and if you stop in to eat, remember our crew is cooking in a kitchen that's even hotter than the weather. A little patience and kindness are always appreciated.

Today’s special is The Sunrise Chorizo Bowl - Crispy potatoes, smoky chorizo, eggs, cheese, and your choice of hollandaise or gravy.

Never had chorizo? Think breakfast sausage’s more adventurous cousin—rich, smoky, boldly seasoned, and made for eggs and potatoes.

Minnesotans aren’t always known for chasing spice, but don’t worry… this isn’t a five-alarm fire. It’s more of a “grab another cup of coffee and enjoy” kind of heat.

Come give your breakfast routine a little upgrade.
