It’s that time of year again! Join us Saturday, October 17 at JT Basque Restaurant as we look ahead to 2027.

Tickets can be purchased at the bar ahead of the feed for $40 each.

Or tickets at the door the day of the feed will be $45 each.

Today we say goodbye to one of Mendiko's own, Roger Izoco, whose spirit lit up every gathering he was part of. Roger's history with our club runs deep: he was our very first dancer back in 1981, and as an adult he gave his time year after year as our beloved bartender at the annual Basque Picnic.

Roger was a big personality with an even bigger heart — always the center of attention on the dance floor, always ready with a song. His rendition of "Nevadarat Joan Nintzen" was legendary, and anyone who ever heard him sing it won't soon forget it.

Roger embodied the fun-loving, generous spirit that makes our Basque community what it is. He will be deeply missed, and his energy will live on in every picnic, every dance, and every song we share as a club.

Eskerrik asko, Roger, for everything you gave us. Gure bihotzetan izango zara beti — you will always be in our hearts.

This Labor Day, we honor the hands — and the hearts — that built our Basque community here in the Carson Valley.

We remember the herders who spent long, solitary seasons in the mountains, tending sheep across the American West. But we also remember the women of the Basque boarding houses who ran the households, cooked, cleaned, and kept the community together while the men were away. Their work was every bit as essential: they were the anchor that made it possible for Basque families to survive and thrive in a new country.

Today, we honor them all and to everyone who carries that legacy forward.

What a day on the greens! Thanks to everyone who teed off with us at the Gazteak on the Green Golf Classic on Friday, August 7th at Carson Valley Golf Course, part of our Basque Picnic Weekend in Gardnerville. It was wonderful seeing so many familiar faces out enjoying a day of golf, laughs, and community.
