A lot of our guests have never even heard of Golden Tilefish before stepping aboard with Up Above Adventures—but after they catch one and bring some home for dinner, they definitely remember them!
Golden Tilefish are one of the deep-water species we can target during our overnight offshore charters in the Gulf. These fish live hundreds of feet below the surface along deep, soft-bottom areas of the continental slope, which makes catching them a completely different experience from your typical reef or snapper trip.
And the best part? They are phenomenal table fare. 🤤
Golden Tilefish have firm, white, flaky meat with a mild, slightly sweet flavor. A lot of people describe the flavor as having a subtle crab or lobster-like sweetness, making them an excellent fish for grilling, baking, broiling, or pan-searing.
⚡ DEEP-DROPPING WITH SERIOUS EQUIPMENT
When you're fishing these depths, you're not using an ordinary fishing setup.
At Up Above Adventures, we use high-end Daiwa electric reels that allow our guests to fish extreme depths without having to manually crank a heavy rig and several fish hundreds—or even a thousand-plus feet—to the surface.
Our deep-drop leaders are rigged with five baited hooks, giving you the opportunity to hook multiple fish on a single drop.
