It is with incredibly heavy hearts that we share the passing of our founder, Hershel “Sonny” McClure, who went home to be with the Lord on August 13, 2026, at the age of 90.

For our family, he was so much more than the man who started our restaurants. He was a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, friend, faithful Christian, and the foundation of a family legacy that has continued for generations.

In 1957, Sonny and his beloved wife of 70 years, Rhojean, opened their first restaurant. What began with the two of them grew into something much bigger than a business. It became a family. Over the years, their children, grandchildren, and other family members became part of the restaurants, helping to build the legacy that so many of you have been a part of through the years.

When you walk through the doors of our restaurants today, you are walking into something Sonny started nearly 70 years ago. He taught our family that a restaurant was never simply about serving food. It was about serving people. It was about working hard, taking care of others, treating people like family, and building something that could be passed down to the next generation.

Sonny was known for his love of Christ, his love for his family, and his love of working in the restaurants. He was a man who believed in showing up, working hard, and helping others - and he spent his life doing exactly that.

We know that so many of our customers have their own memories of Sonny. Maybe you remember seeing him working in the restaurant. Maybe he served you a meal, greeted you by name, shared a conversation, or simply made you feel welcome.
