College students shouldn’t go hungry! Sodexo partners with national nonprofit Swipe Out Hunger to help food-insecure students on college campuses nationwide. The program allows students to donate meals to a “swipe bank.” For every meal plan purchased on our campuses, Sodexo also donates two meal swipes to the bank. The donated swipes are then allocated to the ID cards of students in need. It’s all anonymous to eliminate the stigma often associated with hunger.

The program is just one way Sodexo is working to fulfill our commitment to serve our communities and feed hungry people.
Since 2020, we’ve provided more than 7,000 meals to 1,100+ students across 50+ campuses. And we’re just getting started.

Americans waste up to 40% of the food supply every year, causing environmental damage, hunger, and supply chain issues. Food waste is one of the top contributors to harmful greenhouse gas emissions.

Sodexo is fighting food waste and loss on college campuses with WasteWatch powered by Leanpath. This system allows us to track, measure, and reduce waste, helping us reach our goal to cut food waste by 50% and reduce carbon emissions by 34% by 2025.

Did you know the food you eat can make a difference in the fight against climate change? Sodexo, Gadsden State Community College’s campus dining partner, has been working with World Wildlife Fund (WWF) since 2010 to develop responsible sourcing strategies that conserve natural resources and reduce environmental impacts.

Support from WWF has helped Sodexo increase the number of menu items that have a low carbon footprint as part of an overarching goal to reduce carbon emissions. The partnership also focuses on sourcing responsibly, reducing food waste, and raising awareness among employees and consumers.

This partnership creates an opportunity to make a real difference in the world and even drive larger changes in the global food system. It also shows how small changes we make at the local level can have huge impacts, making the world a better place for all living things.

Sodexo has partnered with the Humane Society of the United States for more than 15 years to foster a more humane supply chain and combat climate change through responsible sourcing strategies. In 2015, Sodexo and HSUS worked together to develop 300 new plant-based recipes.

More recently, we’ve worked with HSUS to bring plant-based dining room takeover events to college campuses around the country. At these events, campus chefs transform one station in the dining hall into a plant-based station for a day. It’s a great way to showcase some of the fun, delicious, and environmentally friendly dishes our chefs prepare for students. And it’s a good reminder that even small changes in our day-to-day lives can make a big impact!

Welcome to the future of mindful, sustainable campus dining. Sodexo’s engagement with Future 50 Foods began when Knorr Professional and the World Wildlife Fund created an enticing list of 50 plant-based ingredients with lower carbon footprints.

Scientists, nutritionists, and agricultural experts agree these foods – like lentils, kale, amaranth and pumpkin flowers – are biodiverse, accessible, and flavorful. It’s all about fueling our bodies with food that’s higher in nutrition and lower in environmental impact.

At GSCC Dining, we’re serving up more sustainable, plant-based options every day. We know students crave healthy, plant-forward meals, and we’re committed to ensuring 42% of our college campus menus are plant-based by 2025.

Pop quiz: What’s an easy way to make a real difference for our planet while also improving your health?

Answer: Plant-based foods!

Beef requires 20 times more land and emits 20 times more greenhouse gas than legumes per unit of protein consumed. Opting for plant-based dishes is one of the top ways for an individual to make a difference in the fight against climate change. And consuming less meat is good for your health – decreasing your risk of heart disease, obesity, diabetes, and even cancer.

GSCC Dining offers plenty of plant-based dishes on campus. It’s part of Sodexo’s commitment to ensuring that 42% of menu items on college campuses are plant-based by 2025.

Look for special plant-based menu icons at campus dining locations, which highlight the delicious options available each day. And remember, we can all make small changes that have huge impacts!
