It’s not ghosts, or monsters, or vampires we’re afraid of this October. It’s censorship.
Because the scariest thing isn’t a book that challenges you, unsettles you, or makes you think differently.
It’s a world where someone else gets to decide what you’re allowed to read.
October 4-10 is Banned Book Week. We are highlighting banned and challenged books and invite you to join us.
Here are a few things you can do to help fight book bans:
1. Read Banned Books. Check them out from the library, buy them on libro.fm, buy them from your local bookstore. When we invest in these books, they’re harder to control.
2. Fight legislation supporting book bans. Through voting, participating in local government, and staying informed on policies that effect you, you can make a difference.
3. Spread the word against book bans. Talk to your neighbors and friends. Join our banned book club and bring a friend. The more that we talk about book bans openly, the less they can happen without our knowledge or consent.
Finally, we want to invite you to our next Banned Book Club meeting on October 29th at 6pm to discuss The Shining by Stephen King. It’s free to join, no sign up or purchase is ever required.
