Sarah Mendelsohn is a poet and writer drawn to the quiet places where longing meets memory, where connection meets solitude, and where people become the stories they tell themselves. Her work explores the landscapes of love, identity, grief, and healing, often finding meaning in ordinary moments—the conversations we replay, the choices we revisit, and the selves we are always becoming.
Sarah earned her Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Mary Washington, where she founded and edited a literary magazine devoted to emerging voices. She has also taught creative writing and literature, deepening her belief in language as both an art form and a way of understanding our shared humanity.
Through intimate, conversational verse, Sarah writes toward the tender contradictions of being human: the desire to be known, the courage to let go, and the journey of returning to oneself.

Sarah is going to read her work at the Brookhouse show this Thursday. All three of our poets are local poets from the Fredericksburg area. Come out and support our local artist.

She is a four-time Wammie Award winner for Best Country/Americana Artist, a Mid-Atlantic Song Contest winner, an Ameripolitan nominee, and an official showcasing artist at SXSW and UK AmericanaFest.

Karen, this Thursday, the 23rd, will be sharing another passion of hers: poetry. Come out and support one of Fredericksburg's very own!

I began rearranging lyrics at 10 years old..I started writing poetry at 14 years of age.
Writing songs and poetry in scattered journals along the way, mostly the human condition, love, the deepest searches for lost humanity, the searches for one's joy amidst the ruins of life...

Ralph will be reading with his work on July 23rd at the Brookhouse show this Thursday! We will announce the other to local poets who be there to share there art throught the week!

BROOKHOUSE IS BACK THIS THURSDAY, 8pm to 10pm.

This Group is one of our absolute favorites from Richmond, Virginia! Alex and his team of young talent musicians have such great energy. Alex's songwriting is positive in its messaging while still telling serious stories about growing up with the cultural tension that comes with being a part of an immigrant family in America. It can be difficult to balance being a part of a new community while cherishing the identity of who you are and where you came from. American Sounds is the song that is featured in this post. It does a beautiful job of laying out that tension in such an honest and truthful way! And reminds us all that immigrant culture is American culture! Especially in art. BrookHouse's American Sound can be found on your favorite streaming site!

Come out this Thursday to see Brookhouse to hear more of Alex's insightful songwriting and introspection. We'll be serving Coffee, food, and Craft Cocktails, and best of all,l the show is free.

Happy First Friday, Everyone!

Lyra Nettels is playing from 8 pm to 10 pm, and our first Friday after-party is from 10 pm to however long we can keep the party going with DJ Prosper. He is bringing the heat with his Detroit House vinyl DJ set!
