GRAND COUNTY AFTER DARK: ROSIE

If the walls of Fisher’s in Fraser could talk… we're not sure we'd want to hear everything they have to say. According to local lore, Rosie was a “lady-of-the-evening” who worked at the old Crooked Creek Saloon in the early 1900s.

Then came the Great Blizzard of 1909.

The story says Rosie and others were trapped inside the saloon during the storm from snow drifts against the doors. As they tried to keep warm, the wood stove caught the building on fire.

The saloon burned. Rosie and the others never made it out. Or at least… that's how the story goes.

The building was eventually rebuilt on the same spot. And today, Fisher’s still has the original wood stove that local lore connects to the fire.

I took these photos at Fisher’s—an artwork depicting Rosie and the original wood stove.

Over the years, people have reported strange cold spots, unexplained noises, and the feeling that someone—or something—is watching them. And the stories seem to center around the back dining room… near where that old stove was located.

Maybe it's just an old building settling. Maybe it's the wind.

Or maybe Rosie never really left.

If you're sitting in the back room at Fishers and suddenly feel a chill..... Don't be too quick to assume its a breeze from an open door, you might not be alone!

Do you believe Rosie is still there?
