Thought for the day:
It's more about PRESENCE than PRESENTS.
We aren't mailing out Christmas cards this time, but we love our friends and family, all of you, very much.
If I could design a card, though, it would simply say, "GET OVER IT and love one another again... starting now!"
Almost every family has at least one angry, unforgiving, jealous or bitter person keeping the family from gathering as a united, loving unit. Putting their own petty, self-absorbed feelings above those of the good people who raised them from birth, not allowing their parents to have a unified, loving family to share Christmas together isn't just mean; it's downright sociopathic.
To celebrate the birth of Christ, the gift of eternal life and renewed spirits within us.... how about heading back to your immediate family with a smile; visit, eat a meal, share stories, sing... just like the good old days.
Because you'll look back, if you don't, and realize these were the good old days and they could have been a lot better for your parents if you'd given them the greatest gift possible... a reunited, beautiful family experience to take with them in their hearts forever.
Many of us have family units already separated by death, divorce, cold hearts or some combination of these... and for us old boomers, that's the rule, not the exception.
But whoever among your birth- or adopted- family is still enjoying the gift of life should make it a huge priority this year to celebrate Christmas (or Hannukah!) as a unit of love.
If you can't do that....
"What's it all about, Alfie?"
