"We love our soul food in the Fort, and it doesn’t get more soulful than the stuff from the Horn of Africa: the eastern part of the country that’s called the “cradle of civilization.” Samson Yosef’s Ethiopian home-cooking does include meat entrees (lamb, beef, and chicken), but the vegetarian dishes are really the star of the show. Veggie lovers can chose between the berbere-spiked miser wat (a stew-like combo of lentils); shiro wat (ground chickpeas in the same sauce), which has the texture of super-chunky hummus; or the miser alecha, steamed chopped collard greens, deliciously heavy on the garlic seasoning. And there’s the amazing alchemy in the sauce of the tikil gomen: sautéed cabbage, potatoes, and carrots stewed in a vibrantly yellow, mild turmeric-and-garlic sauce." -Critic's Choice
