🚨 IMPORTANT DIGITAL PAYMENT AND FRAUD WARNING 🚨

We are seriously considering switching from Venmo to Square because of the ongoing fraud affecting payments at our honor-system stands.

Venmo has worked very well and has been convenient for many of our customers. Unfortunately, someone is copying the logo and profile picture from our page and using them to create fraudulent Venmo accounts that appear legitimate.

Our only correct Venmo username is:

The fraudulent accounts look almost identical, but they add a dash or underscore:

Another important warning is that these fraudulent accounts appear in the “People” category rather than the “Business” category. Our legitimate Aunt Gena’s account is a business account.

We have contacted Venmo on three separate occasions. Each time, we were told the matter would be addressed, but as of today, these fraudulent accounts have not been shut down.

We may be losing hundreds and hundreds of dollars each week through payments intended for Aunt Gena’s being diverted to these fraudulent accounts.

We want to be very clear: we do not blame anyone who has been deceived by one of these accounts. The scammers are intentionally using our image and a nearly identical username to make the account look legitimate. This is simply one of the difficult realities of doing business in today’s digital world.

Switching to Square will increase the cost of accepting digital payments, which is unfortunate. However, we may have no other responsible choice if we are going to stop this continuing loss and protect both our customers and our business.

Until further notice, please carefully verify that you are paying:

🌽 HELP WANTED: TEMPORARY PART-TIME STAND REPRESENTATIVES AND STAND MANAGER 🌽

Are you a fan of Aunt Gena’s Gourmet Sweetcorn and looking for a temporary, part-time seasonal job?

We are looking for friendly, honest and dependable people to help at several of our Fort Wayne-area locations.

PART-TIME STAND REPRESENTATIVES

We need people who live near one of the following locations:

📍 State Road 37 Stand
📍 Robinson Chapel — Tonkel Road and Union Chapel Road
📍 All-American Marathon — Lima Road and Ludwig Road
📍 Lassus Handy Dandy — Illinois Road, just west of Scott Road

Each person would be assigned to one stand and visit it two or three times throughout the day. The timing of those visits can be somewhat flexible, provided the stand is properly maintained and restocked.

Responsibilities would include:

• Restocking sweetcorn and other produce
• Cleaning and straightening the stand and surrounding area
• Removing empty bins and keeping everything fresh and inviting
• Checking signs, supplies and the overall condition of the stand
• Letting us know promptly when something needs attention
• Visiting and communicating warmly with our customers

Each visit may require approximately one to two hours, depending upon the location and what needs to be done. You must have reliable transportation to and from your assigned stand.

MANAGER FOR OUR NEW LEO–CEDARVILLE STAND

📍 14515 Leo Road in Leo–Cedarville
Located out back of Chemistry 101 Restaurant and Subway

This is a brand-new location for Aunt Gena’s! We are looking for one or more part-time workers who can do more than periodically check and restock this stand. We need friendly and responsible people who can help actively manage the location, remain at the stand for scheduled periods throughout the day and personally take care of our customers.

Our vision is for this location eventually to become a more complete produce stand offering a variety of fresh, local and in-season produce and vegetables. We need someone who is excited about helping us establish and grow this new location while providing the friendly, personal service for which Aunt Gena’s is known.

For all of these positions, we want people who will represent Aunt Gena’s well in every conversation with our wonderful community of customers. We would especially prefer someone who is already a fan of our business, enjoys our products and can naturally share that enthusiasm with others.

We pay very well for someone who is dependable, takes pride in their work and can handle responsibility without constant supervision. Compensation will be discussed individually based upon the position, assigned location, availability and responsibilities. Applicants are welcome to include their desired hourly rate.

Because these are honor-system and customer-facing positions, honesty, dependability and good communication are absolutely essential.

SYNCHRONICITY—WHEN SEEMINGLY RANDOM MOMENTS BECOME MEANINGFUL CONNECTIONS

Have you ever had one of those days when many things went well, yet many things didn’t? Today was discouraging and stressful in several ways—but right in the middle of it all, three wonderful connections came into my life like breaths of fresh air.

The word “synchronicity” describes those meaningful coincidences that seem to happen at precisely the right time. Some may call them chance encounters. I often wonder if they are really God’s quiet way of placing people in one another’s paths when each has something the other needs.

First, I met Ryan, whom I believe may become an ongoing friend and connection, both personally and in business.

Then I met a gentleman named Steve at our Illinois Road location. He openly shared part of his life with me and offered a word of encouragement that was a tremendous blessing. In turn, I was able to encourage him. Two people crossed paths at just the right moment, each carrying something the other needed.

Later, around 6:30, I stopped at Five Guys to grab a quick bite before continuing my journey of cleaning up our stands. Another gentleman named Steve noticed my Aunt Gena’s shirt and asked whether I worked for Aunt Gena’s Gourmet Sweetcorn.

“Well…kind of,” I answered with a laugh. “I’m Uncle Steve!”

That simple question opened the door to a wonderful conversation with Steve and his family, pictured here. They told me they usually pick up our sweetcorn at the All-American Marathon at the corner of Lima and Ludwig.

And yes, judging by my hair in this picture, you can probably tell it had already been quite a day! Apparently, my hair had surrendered long before I did. 😂

Ryan, Steve and Steve—three different connections on one difficult day. Was it merely coincidence, or was it synchronicity? I choose to believe there was meaning in each encounter and purpose in our paths crossing when they did.

Thank you for bringing encouragement, kindness and fresh air into a stressful day. Each of you gave me something meaningful, and I hope I was able to give something meaningful back.

And to all of you who support us: even though I may not have personally connected with every one of you today, you were wonderfully represented by these remarkable people. I look forward to meeting many more of you—and hopefully seeing these new friends again—in the days to come.

Sometimes the greatest blessings aren’t the things that happen to us. They are the people who appear along the way.

❤️ The Honor System Goes Both Ways ❤️

Many of you have told us that our customer service is among the very best, and we cannot adequately express how much that means to us.

Our stands operate on the honor system—but we have always believed that the honor system goes both ways. We trust you to be honorable in the way you do business with us, and we expect ourselves to be equally honorable in the way we do business with you.

For us, that means standing behind what we sell and making things right when something does not meet the quality you have come to expect. It also means being honest with you when weather and growing conditions affect our produce. We will explain those conditions honestly, but we will never use them as an excuse not to take care of our customers.

So many of you understand the tremendous challenges involved in growing local produce. You have walked alongside us during periods when difficult weather caused some of our sweet corn to fall short of the exceptional appearance we continually strive for. You continued supporting us because we were honest about the conditions and because you understood that, although every ear might not look perfect, it was still good-quality, locally grown sweet corn.

We have watched growers throughout the Midwest describe the tremendous struggles they have faced this season. Some sweet-corn growers have nearly lost entire crops, while others have harvested corn far below what they had worked and hoped to produce. Our hearts genuinely go out to them because we understand that struggle.

All things considered, we have been blessed to experience fewer problems than many growers. Nevertheless, we take every quality issue personally—even when it results from weather or environmental conditions beyond our control—because we pour our hearts, our souls, our time, our money and our lives into growing and providing this produce.

The honor system is about far more than leaving the correct payment at one of our stands. It is a relationship built upon mutual trust, honesty, respect, grace and appreciation.

Through the years, together, we have built something that is about far more than selling and purchasing produce. We have built more than a business—we have built a community of honor.

Thank you for being such an honorable and valued part of that community. We will continue working hard to be worthy of your trust. ❤️🌽

🍈 Cantaloupe Update 🍉

We have found a couple of other growers who are able to supply us with cantaloupe that they believe will meet the standards of quality and flavor you expect from us. We hope to begin offering these new cantaloupe very soon—possibly in time for this weekend!

We also want everyone to realize that the local cantaloupe season is relatively short and will likely begin winding down around September 1. We will continue offering quality cantaloupe for as long as good local melons remain available.

Our watermelon season will continue, however, and we plan to keep providing delicious watermelons after the cantaloupe season winds down.

Thank you once again for your patience and understanding. So many of you have been incredibly gracious and supportive, recognizing how challenging the growing conditions and excessive rainfall have been this season. We truly appreciate your understanding, and our grower does as well.

We will let everyone know as soon as the new cantaloupe arrive!
