The Cracker Box Restaurant

The Cracker Box Restaurant 2nd Oldest restaurant in Lee County
A place you can walk into and feel like home. Live Music We are temporarily closed by Hurricane Ian. I pray so. thanks 😊

We were in it's path as it crossed land on September 28th. Outside we got over 10ft of rushing water surge. Had the windows not blown in I'm sure it would of took the building off its fondation.. but 6ft of twirling water rush inside to create a tornado effect throwing everything in its path. Leaving behind 3 ft of mud and destruction. Due to our old age of the building insurance was not an option

. So we are left with clean up and decisions on our future. 60 years of servicing Lee County great food and the best live entertainment around. We are looking for help Cleaning up throwing out and tearing down. Once we get the building gutting we can see if rebuilding is an option. WE HOPE TO REOPEN. Pray donations and help arrive soon. If you like to help please send message and I will reach back to you.

Hi everyone sorry have not posted in a very long time. We have been very busy still cleaning our properties, rebuilding mom's home repairing my sister and my own home from Hurricane Ian, Helene,Milton.
We had to demolish our family home of 50 years. And our cottage beside the restaurant this past year. Not sure of the Cracker box future but we hope to do something in the near future.
Thanks to everyone that keeps an eye on us. Happy 2026. Let's hope this year is the beginning of a new bright future.

I am coming home soon to resume cleaning up from hurricane Ian. We lost 4 family homes 2 more homes was damaged. Trying to make enough money to pay bills became priority. So cleaning up came to a stop. Trying to figure out our future has been challenging. But getting the Cracker box up and going in some form is our biggest challenge. No insurance no money no help has been my biggest concern. But don't give up. If you have any ideas or what to help me please reach out.
By messager. Stay safe

My sister Jill Welker Thompson was able to put together a celebration of life for our brother Jeff December 23rd. There will be a service and stories told along with live music by Jeff's band..... with Sid Smith, William Atlantis Dalbora & greg. ... Guess players Jimmy Jensen and more..... (if you like to play please contact Sid Smith at the American Legion posted).
Jeff birthday is 24th of December so we felt this date The 23rd was appropriate. Please join us in remembering my beautiful amazing brother.

I write this with the greatest sadness and the heaviest heart. The Welker family is so sad to tell our Cracker box family we have lost
my beautiful talented brother Jeff Welker. He was found unresponsive on October 2nd Monday morning by his roommate. Although not confirmed yet we believe he had a heart attack in his sleep.
Please send extra prayers to our mama Judya Welker After losing her home and business of 55 plus years from Ian to end the year losing her son. We are worried about her. My brother Jerry, sisters Jeanine, Jill and myself are shattered and in disbelief along with the rest of the family. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers for strength to help us understand and to grief. Services TBA.

😭😭We lost my brother 😭😭

I just wanted to reach out to everyone. I know I have not informed y'all where we are at with reopening the Cracker box. As of now reopening date is undetermined. Our damage is so devastating we lost everything inside and out. The property is still in need of major cleaning. We still don't have power restored. That in it self has put us at dead stop.
Unfortunately my family did not have insurance and Covid years about shut us down as it was. Alot of bills went on credit cards. We were hoping to make a come back last year then hurricane Ian hit.
We lost everything, all of refrigerators stoves ovens fryers hood system most of kitchen equipment chairs tables shelves PA systems speakers drums microphone amps ect.
We need electricity restored plumbing walls windows doors roof and floors. The structure seems sound. We as a Welker family lost so much and as a family we helped each other at our homes. My mom's home on Sanibel was totally lost so that took Priority. But she's been at the same house since 1972 so we are still cleaning up the mess today. My personal house is loaded with her stuff, restaurant stuff, and my own. My home received alot of damage inside and out. Got a new roof at end of May but inside damage still exists. Both my brothers lived on island with my mom so they too lost everything. My sister home also took in over 10 feet of surge lost everything. So it's been the hardest year of our lives. It's hard to pay bills and keep up with paying on time. It's hard to seek another employment when you have so much on your plate.
I have been so overwhelmed with trying to do so much I feel like I fell into a hole and I can't get out. I want to curl up in a ball and cry and never come out. I have never been so at lost of what to do or how. A few months ago I had to accept a temporary job to have some money coming in but that has temporary put cleaning up on hold.
I DON'T WANT TO GIVE UP ON RESTORING THE 2ND OLDEST RESTAURANT IN LEE COUNTY.
I WANT TO OPEN UP AGAIN.
When my dad passed away 8 years ago everyone thought we would close down. After all dad's music was our draw. But I was determined to keep the restaurant going. So I put my husband and daughters into my hell and brought out my wallet with my credit cards and keep the restaurant afloat.
I thought we were doing a good job. Sure it was week to week survival summer months sucked but we scape by till next season. I never ever thought this would happen.
I miss cooking for people. I miss the fantastic music my bands put out.
I miss seeing my regular that keep us going. I miss seeing people reaction when they are eating my food or heard me sing for the first time.
I miss telling stories of our history of our area.
I miss making money.
I miss having the restaurant.
Please don't give up on us.
I'm not sure what to do or how to even reopen but we own the property and the business.
If you want to reach out with suggestions please send personal messages. Please 🙏 pray I find the light that will show me what to do. We don't want to sell. We know it will never be the same but one day I want to say. Welcome back.
