Thank you for the 5 years 🫡

-SFC Go, Christopher

As I prepare to leave JBLM, I can’t help but reflect on the journey these past few years.

When I first arrived here, I was carrying one of the heaviest burdens of my life. My mom had just passed away, and honestly, I wasn’t in the best place mentally. There were days when I questioned myself, but instead of giving up, I chose to keep moving forward.

Nobody handed me a roadmap. I had to figure things out on my own, ask questions, seek guidance, make mistakes, and continue learning every single day. Looking back, those challenges became the foundation of who I am today.

During my time at JBLM, I had the privilege of serving in multiple leadership roles, from Platoon Sergeant, ABO, UMO, Battalion EO and UDL, DFAC Manager, Culinary Management NCO, Senior Culinary Management NCO, and ultimately Food Advisor. Along the way, I had the honor of mentoring Soldiers, developing future leaders, supporting commanders, managing large-scale food service operations, and representing our team at some of the Army’s highest levels.

When I look at all the awards we’ve earned, I don’t just see trophies. I see the people behind them. Those accomplishments took us from JBLM to North Carolina, Chicago, and Washington, D.C., but they were never earned by one person.

My success has never been about me alone.

I truly believe that before you become a great leader, you must first become a great follower. Every mentor who invested in me, every leader who challenged me, every Soldier who worked beside me, and every teammate who believed in our mission helped shape my career.

To everyone I’ve had the privilege to serve with, I thank you. Thank you for trusting me, challenging me, supporting me, and allowing me to grow alongside you.

As I close this chapter and prepare for the next one, I won’t remember the awards as much as I’ll remember the people. The friendships, the lessons, the challenges we overcame together, and the lives we impacted will always mean the most.

JBLM will always hold a special place in my heart. Thank you for helping turn one of the darkest moments of my life into one of the most meaningful and successful chapters of my Army career.

What more can I say? We’ve been the best DFAC from 2021 until now. We’ve earned x4 time best DFAC in JBLM, 17 consecutive quarterly awards, including four straight, took 1st place in Big Army at the 56th Philip A. Connelly, and in 2024, we won the Troy Welch Award during ASUA in DC.

Thanks all to SFC Brandon Mayo also including the previous and current DFAC manager SSG Miguel Orozco and SSG Kevin Hand 🙌🏼
