Well now…this is interesting.

Huge news for celiac patients: Teva is reporting major success in an initial trial for the development of a new injection that neutralizes the disease. The antibody, developed in the company’s laboratories in Netanya, managed to prevent the intestinal damage and inflammation caused by gluten after just one dose.

Until now, the only solution for millions of patients around the world was a strict, complex, and restrictive lifelong diet. Now, the new Israeli drug simply prevents the immune system from attacking the body when exposed to gluten. Beyond treating celiac disease, the antibody was also found to be effective in treating the skin disease vitiligo, and has already received a fast-track approval pathway from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Now that kids are going back to school here is some information to help make sure you have the proper resources should you need them.

Celiac disease is recognized as a disability under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Because celiac disease is an impairment affecting the major life activity of eating and major bodily functions like the digestive, immune, and neurological systems, the ADA requires reasonable accommodations in many settings. This recognition helps protect access, safety, and inclusion throughout different stages of life.

This is something we have been posting more a lot, especially in the context of kids in school recently as we've been sending our kids back to school, but it does apply in various stages of life, NOT just for children.
