Sizzlin' Bones BBQ really started in 2009. Sizzlin' Bones Competition BBQ Team that is. Tim and Alissa were invited to cook at the very first Smokin' The Fort BBQ and Bluegrass Festival, in downtown Fort Gibson, Oklahoma. We were shocked and surprised this contest was NOT like the Muskogee Chili Cook-off (which is a great event). Tim's cooked the Muskogee event, almost from the very first year and had won many awards over the year's. Smokin' The Fort was sanctioned by The Kansas City BBQ Society (KCBS). We never realized there was a whole world of BBQ competitions, a community of people that LOVED to BBQ like us! Tim and Alissa first met, back in 2007, at the Muskogee Chili Cook-off, BBQ was a...... destiny! After learning more about KCBS and learning more how to cook great BBQ and traveling to contests all over the country, winning several Grand Champions, several Reserve Grand Champions, many top ten awards. In 2013 Sizzlin' Bones was invited to the largest BBQ contest, the World Series of BBQ- The American Royal, and winning 1st place pork out of 164 top teams in the nation. Then the ultimate, we were chosen, by draw, to attend - The Super Bowl of BBQ, The Jack Daniel's World Invitational BBQ Contest, coming home with a 3rd place pork and the coveted Jack Daniel's trophy. 2014, Tim had a great offer to purchase a little restaurant, WAY of the beaten path, in Fort Gibson. An offer he couldn't pass up, the property had most everything to get us started doing what we know and LOVE... cook BBQ. And a small house (needing a BIG renovation, which is still a work in progress) so Tim could be the Pit-master and cook meat all night, wrap meat early in the morning, nobody else does it ALL! We added "Commissary" to the name for two reasons, first it is a nod to Tim's cousin, and best friend, Joel LaRue. Joel, being from Memphis, favorite place to eat BBQ was The Germantown Commissary. Joel was with us at that first Smokin' The Fort and many other contests the following year. Joel's past away in November 2010. Secondly, we are located two doors from The Fort... the actual Fort. You can't have a Fort without a Commissary!! That's how it all started.....we are here to cook good BBQ, but you may here one of us say........"We know how to cook BBQ, it's this restaurant stuff we know nothing about".
