Changes ahead for Willow Ridge -
Iowa Central Community College has proudly operated Willow Ridge Golf Course since 2010. During this time, it has provided our Turf Grass Management and Culinary Arts students with an exceptional real-world experience while providing a recreational service to our region. We are appreciative of all our loyal members and guests who have continued their support of Willow Ridge through annual green fees, participating in our Culinary Arts international menus, and various events hosted at our venue.
Over the past several years, the number of concerns regarding the quality of our course has increased. We completely agree that the current playing condition in many areas of Willow Ridge during times of the year have reached an unacceptable level. In addition to the condition of the course, finding and retaining quality staff during this unprecedented time has been a challenge, and has negatively affected our ability to provide the level of service that is desired. Compounding these issues is the financial sustainability of the course. Over the past 8 years, Iowa Central has lost nearly $1,800,000 while operating Willow Ridge. The amount of investment that is needed in equipment, improvement of the greens, updating the irrigation, etc. is also substantial.
Taking all these factors into consideration, Iowa Central will not be continuing to operate the golf course after the close of this season (December 1, 2022). While a difficult decision, Iowa Central has a responsibility to be stewards of the taxpayer dollars we receive. Iowa Central Community College is actively pursuing options for the future of the property and finding alternative options for our Turf Grass Management program. The Culinary Arts program will continue providing their weekly menu experiences throughout this academic year in the clubhouse and potentially in the future as well.
