Tuesday. Wing night. No special flavors this week. The feature is Kari.

Kari colored her hair red. Nobody asked me, but I've reviewed it, and it's somewhere between Buffalo and Voodoo on the heat scale. She's behind the bar tonight if you'd like to confirm for yourself. Compliments are accepted.

Comparisons to hot sauce are apparently "not the same thing as compliments." I've been informed.

Meanwhile, Chef B has the full sauce board going, award-winning kitchen and all.

All hands on deck. The Bengals are in town.

Last week the Steelers put up three points in New England. Captain Ron has taken it personally. He's calling the whole RCH Steeler Squad back to the bar for the first division game of the year, 1:00 on CBS, and he expects every one of you in Black & Gold.

Lily has been told the Bengals are tigers. She is unmoved. She has never lost a staring contest to a cat.

Chef B put something together that's worth a Double Yoi.

It's 9:30 on a Sunday morning.

Four weeks from right now, the Steelers kick off against the Saints in Paris. You should be at Ryan's Creek House when it happens, eating breakfast done the right way and watching it on every screen in the building.

Sunday, October 25. Doors open at 9:00, so you have half an hour to get coffee in you before kickoff.

For today, it's Bengals at 1:00. Go back to bed if you want. I already did.

Steelers have their roster set. The owner's Falcons are beyond help. Ours has openings.

Welcome to the Creek House Draft. With the first overall pick, we're taking dishwashers.

No. 1 overall: Dishwashers.
The offensive line. Every plate, pan, and pint glass in this building goes through one station, and we're busy enough to need more hands on it. Full or part-time, flexible hours. It's also where half our kitchen started.

Also on the board:

Expo. Reads the pass like a quarterback reads a defense. Calls the play, gets it out hot.
Line cooks. Soft hands, steady under Friday-night pressure. We have award-winning sauces now. They do not make themselves. I've watched.
Servers & bartenders. Game-day personality, every day of the week.
Food runners & hosts. No experience required. Undrafted free agents do well here.

Combine requirements:
Show up. Then show up again. You'd be amazed how far that gets you.
Time off goes through the app, two weeks out. I don't make the rules. I just enforce them from the floor.
I nap on the job. You may not.

The owner asked if the Falcons could apply. I told him we have standards.

Saturday night has a soundtrack now.

Chad Toland is playing the Creek tonight from 6–9 PM, which means management has once again booked live entertainment instead of simply letting me bark at people from under a table.

The kitchen is also refusing to be background noise.

🐟 Islands in the Cream — three cod filets, because apparently two would’ve shown restraint.

🥩 Daddy’s Money — 12oz USDA Prime NY strip. I still have no access to the family trust.

🧀 Coat of Many Cheddars — two smash patties, bacon, caramelized onions, white Cooper and mild yellow cheddar. Subtlety was not invited.

The fall flights are pouring, Summer’s Last Call is still hanging on by a thread, and Chad’s handling the soundtrack from 6–9.

Come for dinner. Stay for the music. Have another drink because leaving during a good song would be rude.

I’ll be near the guitar case accepting tips.

Preferably edible ones.

Happy Dolly Parton Day. The kitchen took it personally.

🐟 Islands in the Cream. Three cod filets, not two. Panko-parmesan crusted, broiled golden, finished in garlic-lemon butter. Lily counted the filets twice to be sure, and there were three both times.
🥩 Daddy's Money. A 12oz hand-cut NY strip, and it's USDA Prime, the top grade there is. Lily has never been handed a card with no limit, but she now understands the appeal.
🧀 Coat of Many Cheddars. Two smash patties, bacon, and caramelized onions, stitched together in white Cooper and mild yellow cheddar.

Working 9 to 5 is optional tonight, and dinner isn't. The fall flights are pouring, Summer's Last Call is running out of summer, and Lily has claimed the booth closest to the kitchen. The cod goes till it's gone, so don't wait on the islands.

Thursday — Sandwich Night

Thursday.

Dave says the bar carries this place. Chef B says try eating a b**r. Neither of them asked me.

15% off every sandwich on the menu. Coors Light $3 for a 22oz, $6 a pitcher.

I've been told a sandwich is a thing you hold with two hands. Both of yours. Neither of mine. This is the part of the arrangement I continue to object to.

Dave's on the bar. Chef B's on the line. I'm in the doorway, where the crumbs happen.
