Well… this is pretty surreal...
Food & Wine just featured Trowbridge’s Orange Pineapple as Alabama’s essential ice cream flavor in their article:
“The Essential Ice Cream Flavors for All 50 States.” ❤️

For over 100 years, generations of families have walked through our doors for a scoop of Orange Pineapple — a flavor that has become part of the story of Trowbridge’s and part of the story of Florence itself.

To see our little soda fountain recognized on a national level means more to us than we can possibly put into words.

Thank you to our customers, our employees past and present, and everyone who has supported Trowbridge’s through the years. We’re incredibly grateful.

Orange Pineapple isn’t just an ice cream flavor to us — it’s part of our family history, part of Florence history, and part of countless childhood memories shared at our soda fountain over the last 108 years.

Some people discover it once and never forget it.

Some have been ordering it for 50 years.

Either way, we’re grateful every single time someone walks through our doors to experience a little piece of Trowbridge’s tradition. 🍊

Over the past several years, we have had countless customers come into Trowbridge’s upset or disappointed about prepackaged pimento cheese products purchased in grocery stores — believing those products were made, supervised, or quality-controlled by us.

They are not.

To be completely clear:

Trowbridge’s Ice Cream & Sandwich Shop has absolutely no involvement in the production, ingredients, manufacturing, or quality control of those grocery store products, despite the use of the Trowbridge’s name on the packaging.

Because this confusion has continued for years and directly impacts the reputation our family and staff have spent 108 years building, legal action is currently underway regarding the use of our trademark and brand identity.

We especially want customers to understand that the jalapeño pimento cheese sold in stores is NOT the jalapeño recipe we serve in our restaurant. The recipes are entirely different products.

At Trowbridge’s, our pimento cheese is still made fresh in-house in small batches using our own recipes and standards — the same way our customers have known for generations.

This post is not intended to tell anyone what they should or should not buy. People are free to enjoy whichever product they prefer. Our goal is simply to make sure customers understand that these are two separate businesses and two separate products.

Six generations of memories. 💚

This sweet little guy recently made his first visit to Trowbridge’s wearing his “Take Me to Trowbridge’s” onesie — becoming the 6th generation of the Eaton family to walk through our doors.

For generations, the Eatons have been part of the Trowbridge’s story. James Eaton worked here more than 70 years ago, and the Eaton family has remained woven into the fabric of this place ever since.

Yesterday, James laid his beloved wife Betty to rest. Tucked beside her was a Trowbridge’s menu — a simple but beautiful reminder of the place where they were engaged, a place that held memories, traditions, laughter, and love for their family through the years.

Today’s post is shared in honor of our dear friend James, Betty, and the generations of families who have made Trowbridge’s part of their lives since 1918.
