We had a lot of fun this week preparing to have the foundation work begin on Tuesday. As the next phase of building begins, we are still seeking a New Jersey licensed commercial HVAC company to complete that portion of the work on Millie’s. Hello Friends! 🍀

We are overjoyed to be joining the Flemington community in the coming months. We have felt so welcomed by the residents of this town, and truly look forward to serving you.

While the process of acquiring and restoring The Filling Station has been a labor of love for us, it has come at a great cost due to the nature of the property. As many of you may know, the parcel was once a functioning gas station. In the mid 2000s, a state-run cleanup mitigated some of the damage done to the earth during its operational years. At the start of our journey in 2021, we removed the last two oil tanks still left in the ground, as well as a hydraulic jack buried in the floor of the garage. These steps contributed to the overall health of the soil, which in turn lifted this property over her last hurdle. We are excited to see the finish line for this stage as a result. However, since taking ownership from Flemington Borough, all our costs associated with tank removal, environmental remediation, and the NJDEP filings have now reached $75,036.

While this is a significant monetary setback, we refuse to quit! We are very happy to report that no further work will be needed aside from capping the last monitoring well. And just last month, the state confirmed the site will be certified complete by year's end. This will cease all ongoing fees from the mandatory testing.

Because this work had to occur prior to beginning construction on the restaurant itself, it has ultimately consumed a great deal of our resources. We are not a large restaurant group or corporation. We are two friends: a local, owner-operator team who both work full time in other area restaurants as we build Millie’s. There is a limit to our budget, and we still have a long road to opening. We humbly ask, for anyone who may have the desire and means, to consider a contribution to our crowdfund intended to offset the remediation costs. Hello everyone,

As part of the larger Hunterdon County community, we were so saddened to hear of the terrible fire that destroyed the Open Cupboard Food Pantry and Thrift Shop this week in Clinton. Through friends on the local fire and rescue squad in the area, I learned that they are looking for Shop Rite gift cards and monetary donations to help those in need while they work through rebuilding. Since our industry aims to brighten people's day through food and good company, I wanted to pass along the pantry's website for anyone interested in helping.

Our love goes out to the Clinton community, as well as to those who make the Open Cupboard possible. Positive thoughts toward a speedy rebuild. 🍽 💛 🛠

As many of you are aware, there was a devastating fire at Open Cupboard Food Pantry & Thrift Shop last night, February 25th. The shop and pantry were both destroyed. Our number one priority is to assist our pantry clients, and we will be utilizing the Washington Basket to do this moving forward.

All the love you've shown us- from your kind comments online to the friendly hello's from those passing by the property- has meant so much. Trust us, we want to know when we’re opening too!

It has been some time since we’ve been able to announce a big step in our progress. We're excited to report that we’ll be submitting plans for construction permits this month. You'll likely see our sign post being installed soon, too, if you live in town. (She’s a bit tricky to store, so she’ll be going up in advance of construction.)
