Surprise! We are doing this week’s Collaborator Reveal a day early due to the holiday - or maybe it’s because we just couldn’t wait another day to announce this one. ;)

Monkey Business Institute has a very special place in my heart. I have had the pleasure of seeing many of their shows at Glass Nickel on Atwood, and I have also had the opportunity to take several of their classes. I’m not exaggerating when I say those classes changed me as a person.

I’ve always been a pretty literal thinker. I’m not someone who considers herself to be witty. Public speaking terrified me. Saying “yes” and running with an idea wasn’t in my nature.

Monkey Business Institute helped change this for me. Their classes taught me to say “Yes, AND” more often. Their classes allowed me to use my brain in a totally different way. Their classes taught me that there really are no rules- we are all just making it up and doing our best. Their classes provided a safe space for me to try being funny, witty, and just…improvise.

Life is not a dress rehearsal. It’s not staged. It’s all improv.

This is why I literally squealed with delight when Monkey Business said they’d like to have a presence at The Hive. Their magic is so powerful, and I am so thrilled it’ll be offered here.

Happy Friday, everyone! You guessed it - it’s time for another Collaborator Reveal!

The third edition of The Hive newsletter went out earlier this week. The topic of the newsletter was joy. In the newsletter, I wrote about how we can infuse more joy into our lives, take ownership of our joy, and charm ourselves back into love with our lives.

I am thrilled to announce The Wonder Studio will have a presence at The Hive, and will be here to infuse more joy into the lives of The Hive patrons.

My family has had the great pleasure of taking classes at The Wonder Studio in Verona for the past five years. For those of you not familiar with Kindermusik, it’s “the world’s leading provider of music-based education for children from birth through age seven.” The Wonder Studio offers Kindermusik classes in Middleton, Verona, and Stoughton - and soon, at The Hive!

Angie and her team of educators do a phenomenal job of weaving in activities that encourage parent-child connection and laughter, through play. Their activities also build confidence, inhibitory control, listening, and other skills that will benefit the children throughout their lives. My husband and I loved it so much that we signed up our daughter before she was even born!

Wow! It’s hard to believe we acquired this property only 7 weeks ago. So much has changed! The house is furnished, the decks and porches are done, and the floors in the barn look great!

There’s still some work needed before we can open our doors. The good news is that it’s all doable; it just requires funding. :)

That’s where you come in! We need your help. Many hands make light work, and together, I know we can install this parking lot and ADA-compliant bathroom in no time.

Happy Friday, Hive Community! I’m literally buzzing with excitement. The time has finally arrived to present this week’s Collaborator Reveal.

Raise your hand if you love dahlias! Fiora Farms is bringing thousands of these magical beauties to The Hive. In fact, they’re being grown at the farm next door to The Hive as you read this!

I’ve had the pleasure of witnessing the love Scot, Kelly, and their daughter Eliza have poured into bringing this beautiful field of flowers to life. From tilling the soil to rehabbing a fabulous flower cart, they’ve given it their all - and it shows.

You can find Fiora Farms’ flower cart outside of The Hive on Fridays and Saturdays this summer, starting mid-July. They’ll also be offering a New Grower Box in November, complete with tubers, snips and garden gloves.

This week started with the wind knocked out of my sails and ended with new life breathed into them.

This weekend, my family and I made some new core memories at The Hive. Our children will have memories that include scooter races inside The Hive barn, filling pothole puddles with sticks and rocks, and witnessing our village come together to assemble furniture, paint the porch posts, clean up the landscaping, etc.

I am grateful for the people who reached out, sat with me, ate cake with me, FaceTimed with me, and brainstormed with me this week. Their encouragement is priceless, and I value it immensely.

Happy Friday! It’s a beautiful day today - perfect for a Collaborator Reveal and Giveaway!

A few weeks ago, I mentioned that the vision for The Hive has evolved a bit. I’ve always wanted The Hive to be a place that offers something for everyone, and a space that supports local businesses. Initially, I intended to facilitate all of the events at The Hive. I quickly realized that I’m just one person. I can’t do everything, nor am I the best person to facilitate every single type of event.

This was an “Aha!” moment for me. There are so many small businesses out there doing amazing things - why not ask if they would bring their magic to The Hive and facilitate their events in our space?

I’m delighted to introduce The Reading Nest (The Reading Nest) and thrilled to announce they’ll have a presence at The Hive when we open!

The Reading Nest is the brainchild of an incredible woman named Emma. I first met Emma at The Wonder Studio in Verona. She was our daughter’s Kindermusik teacher - and when I tell you she’s one of the most talented child educators I’ve ever met, I mean it. She’s passionate, kind, organized, playful, and a real gem of a human.

The Reading Nest helps families build connection, wonder, and a love of stories through thoughtfully curated books, reading guidance, and story-centered community experiences. “Nests are built slowly and carefully. They are places of rest, community, safety and connection,” Emma says. “That’s my big hope behind this project: to find ways to help families create a home where stories are woven into the fabric of their life.”

The Hive is proud to provide a home for The Reading Nest to offer events like “Books & Brunch: Family Storytime” and book clubs (with food and crafts!) for folks ages 5-100.

As I reflect on the past two weeks, I see progress. I also see new and unexpected challenges.

Starting a small business - especially a brick and mortar location - is not an easy feat. There are a lot of high highs, and some low lows. I’m so grateful for my community and village who support me on this journey. I am constantly having to remind myself that I’m not doing this alone. I never have been, and I never will be.

I have faith that this business will open exactly when it should. It’ll be right on time - whenever that may be. For now, I am taking it one day at a time and continuing to take the next right actions.

Happy Friday! Guess who’s back!?

It’s been a minute since we did a Collaborator Reveal, and we are excited for the second part of this series.

We are so thrilled to be partnering with GOBAR LLC for our Hive Housewarming Party (and future events)! GoBar provides a Mobile Bar Experience and also offers a Graze Station. I’m thrilled they agreed to take ownership of the Housewarming bevvies and can’t wait to see them shine!

This collaboration is so special for me because it hits close to home. Literally. Owned and operated by Juli and Joe, a mother-son team, Juli lives next door to The Hive!

Back in December, I (Melissa) nervously walked to their house with an envelope in-hand. That envelope contained a letter explaining a little about me, my intention to purchase the property next door to their home, and my intention to turn it into a business called The Hive.

I was terrified, to say the least. I didn’t know the family who lived in the gorgeous yellow farmhouse. What if they hated the idea of having a business operating next door to their home?

I knocked on the door, handed the envelope to their daughter, and waited.

A few weeks later, I received the most delightful message. Juli had received my letter and was thrilled! An entrepreneur herself, she and her family have championed The Hive from day one and have been a huge source of support for me throughout this journey.

I am so excited to return the favor and support their new business, too.

It’s Mr. Hive’s birthday tomorrow! We recognize each day of this life is a gift - not a guarantee - and we are grateful for today.

To express our gratitude for another healthy, beautiful year on this planet, we decided to kick off his birthday weekend festivities by volunteering at Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin.

How will you practice gratitude and generosity today? Hint: it doesn’t have to involve money, grand gestures, or copious amounts of time. Much love to you all!
