I hope you stopped in tonight for ice cream—this weather is WAY too hot to go without!

If you haven’t already noticed, there’s now a Pepsi cooler in the lobby stocked with a variety of sodas, Gatorade and Alanis. Those are all for sale—and cheaper than my competitors, by the way.

We’ve also got ALL of our syrup flavors listed on the board now, with TONS of space left to fill in our fall drink specials. I know how excited you are for those!

The bakery corner is stocked with cookies, bars and cinnamon rolls. Muffins, pastries and snacks are going fast though, so you better come grab them while you can!

I won’t have any more Clouds until Friday after I get some ingredients delivered. You guys have been wiping me out before I even have a chance to make more, and I’m definitely not complaining about that!

Tomorrow I’m going to try my hand at coffee/espresso chocolate bars—and not just coffee-flavored ones. These will actually have real caffeine! I’m also hoping to work on some protein bars made with whey protein.

DON’T HOLD ME TO IT! As most of you know, the second you actually plan to get something done, it becomes approximately 75% less likely to happen. Or maybe that’s just me.

Anyway, keep checking in to see what’s new in the bakery corner! As always, THANK YOU so very much for being patient as I navigate this world of mine and continuing to support Sugar Barrel!

My post about changing our hours was never meant to be a pity post or a ā€œfeel bad for meā€ post. It was simply meant to let everyone know about our updated hours and give a little insight into why I decided to make the change.

With that being said, I do want to say THANK YOU to every single one of you who has supported Sugar Barrel in any way. Whether it’s been a kind word, sharing a post, stopping in for coffee or ice cream—and now breakfast—it truly means more to me than you know. So again, thank you for continuing to show up, support us, and grow with Sugar Barrel.

Owning a small business comes with a lot of learning, adjusting, and figuring out what works along the way. These new hours, as well as a few updates happening around the shop, are simply part of those adjustments. Once I get everything sorted out and exactly where I want it, I’ll share some pictures and all the details on what’s new!

It’s been a little bit since I’ve done a new Cloud Croissant… so here are TWO!

First up — Blueberry Cloud!

Why I never made a blueberry version to go along with our original Strawberry Cloud, I’m not sure. But here it is!

Same vanilla cloud you know and love, loaded with fresh blueberries and finished with a sweet blueberry sauce over the top.

And then we have White Chocolate Raspberry Cloud!
This one is the PERFECT mix of sweet + tart. Fresh raspberries, white chocolate sauce, and chopped white chocolate pieces — but the best part might be the cloud itself. Instead of our regular vanilla cloud, this one has a sweet & tart raspberry cloud filling. Now I understand why it’s a classic flavor combination. Seriously, the raspberry and white chocolate balance each other perfectly.

Two new Clouds. Two very different flavors.

We’ve also got fresh cinnamon rolls out for tomorrow morning!

I have ultimately decided to do something I didn’t think I’d have to do so early in the game. But before anything else, I want to make one thing very clear: I refuse to give up on Sugar Barrel.

At the same time, I’ve realized that giving up and completely burning myself out will eventually lead to the same place if I let it.

Today, I worked at the shop for 17 hours straight—with the exception of about 10 minutes to run to the Dollar Store for honey. In those 17 hours, the shop did $304 in sales. That’s it.

That meant I missed getting my kids off to school. I missed them getting home from school. I missed homework, dinner, bath time and bedtime…to ultimately come out negative for the day.

And NOTHING is worth missing that time with them every single day of the week.

The difference is, I own the business. I have the ability to change that. So I am.

Beginning Monday, August 31st, Sugar Barrel will close at 10 AM on Mondays and Tuesdays.

With school back in session, I’m generally the only person here during the daytime—which is great until I need to run an errand, take one of my kids to a doctor’s appointment, attend something at school or simply handle life outside of these four walls.

Instead of randomly closing the shop when those things come up and leaving everyone wondering whether we’re open, I would much rather give our customers a consistent schedule they can depend on.

And now that I’ve shared WAY more information than I ever told myself I would when I opened this place…let me share some good news. šŸ˜‚

I’ve spent a lot of time running numbers, going through our accounting, reducing the amount of labor needed with school starting and our new operating hours, and finding better pricing on ingredients and materials.

Effective September 1st, our menu prices are changing—and 95% of our menu items are staying the same or DROPPING in price!

There were only two items that needed an increase, and those increased by just 50Ā¢ per size. All size upgrades will now be $1, and we’ve also added a regular-size Lotus option to the menu!

And one more thing I want everyone to understand:

Just because Sugar Barrel is closed does not mean I’m not here working.

On Mondays and Tuesdays after we close, you will very likely still see me at the shop. Those hours are actually the perfect opportunity for me to bake, prep, order, clean, work on menus, handle paperwork and prepare for the upcoming days without stopping every few minutes to help a customer.

You may not always see me behind the counter, but I promise I am still working on improving, growing and figuring out how to make Sugar Barrel better.

Lastly, support your local businesses whenever you can.

As a mom of three who works what feels like 100 hours a week, I completely understand that getting coffee every morning or taking the family out for ice cream every night simply isn’t realistic. I’m not asking anyone to do that.

But when you are going to grab a coffee, a treat, lunch, a bottle of water or something small, consider spending those few dollars with a local business.

It matters more than most people realize.

Every coffee. Every ice cream cone. Every bottle of water. Every share, comment, recommendation and ā€œHey, have you tried this place?ā€ helps keep a small business going.

I’m learning as I go. I’m adjusting when something isn’t working. And I’m doing my best to build a Sugar Barrel that can be here for the long haul—without missing my kids growing up in the process.

Thank you to everyone who continues to walk through our doors and support this crazy little dream of mine. šŸ¤Ž

Sugar Barrel will be closed the remainder of the night.

I spend A LOT of my time at the shop and tonight I’d like to watch my stepson and the fisher football team play football!

We’ll be testing out our new breakfast hours to start:

Monday–Friday • 6:30–9:30 AM
Available while supplies last

These hours may change depending on how things go during the first week or two. We’re going to give it a try, see what works, and adjust from there!

Please remember—there is only one of me, and I’m doing my best to continue bringing Sugar Barrel the things I believe our community wants. In order for me to keep doing that, I need your support! ā¤ļø

You all have been so amazing through this transition, and I truly can’t wait to see what the rest of the year brings for Sugar Barrel.

And with the school year starting, stay tuned for updated shop hours too! I’ll make another post soon to get everyone’s thoughts on ā€œschool hoursā€ vs. ā€œsummer hoursā€ and figure out what works best for our community.

For now… come hungry! Breakfast is almost here! ā˜•ļø
