Meet Allegra, our General Manager at The Grove. 💛

I could probably write an entire memoir about Allegra and her role in shaping The Grove into what it is today.

She first came to us looking for a position in the kitchen as an apprentice, eager to leave the tech industry behind in search of more meaningful, hands-on work. While attending Cornell, she had already spent time working as a dining hall cook, so she came with a quiet foundation of kitchen experience and a deep curiosity to learn more about the restaurant world. Her dream has always been to open a restaurant of her own someday.

It didn’t take long for us to realize she had an incredible talent for pastry. Allegra baked with the kind of precision and consistency that usually takes years to develop — mastering techniques in a matter of weeks and quickly becoming an essential part of our pastry program.

After a year of creating beautiful pastries, it became obvious she was ready to learn every other side of the business too.

Without ever being asked, Allegra began tracking data, identifying patterns, and introducing ideas that improved our operational and financial performance. Slowly, the idea for a General Manager role was born naturally around her strengths.

I often joke that she’s my favorite version of AI: “Allegra Intelligence.” Her brain works in ways that make her an absolute force — thoughtful, strategic, calm under pressure, and endlessly capable.

We are beyond grateful to have someone like her helping steer the ship behind the scenes and helping take The Grove to the stable, efficient level it needs to grow and expand.

Shoutout to this amazing human. We love you, Allegra. ✨

We’re so excited to be part of the Santa Cruz edition this April 🌿✨

All month long, we’ll be featuring special dishes that celebrate the creativity and depth of flavor that comes from thinking outside the box. While The Grove is already known for our abundant plant-forward menu, these offerings bring an extra touch of fine dining flair.

First up: our Smoked Beet Tartare with fermented black garlic cashew cream, crispy fried capers, and house-made rye toast.

Three Years of The Grove

In the restaurant world, the first five years are the hardest. Many don’t make it past the beginning.

We did.

Three years ago, Chef Jessica built The Grove from the ground up on a shoestring budget and a whole lot of heart. What started as a dream funded by her own savings has grown into a thriving community café, fueled by loyal regulars, new guests, and the incredible support of the SLV and Santa Cruz community.

And that deserves a celebration.
