To celebrate the start of fall, my husband and I decided to get away for a mid-week staycation to the Stonebreaker Hotel Stonebreaker Hotel down in Fayetteville. We had dined at the restaurant before and fallen in love with the historic charm and beautiful grounds, and thought wouldn’t it be nice to wake up to this too?

So we packed our overnight bags and headed south. The hotel sits on Markham Hill, so close in to the U of A campus and downtown Fayetteville, yet so hidden in nature once you get there. We checked into our room, then headed across the beautiful courtyard to the onsite restaurant for cocktails and dinner. My Chupacabra and my husband’s Sorghum Old Fashioned were both fantastic, as was our Mountain Pork Chop (that we split after polishing off the delicious Pimento Cheese and Sourdough starter). 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻

We took our second round of cocktails to the patio, to sit by the fire pit, then took a dip in the pool and jacuzzi under the stars.

In the morning we woke up to a thermos of fresh brewed coffee outside our hotel door! I poured a cup and took myself on a stroll around the property. We enjoyed our breakfast at the outdoor patio tables, and then went for a hike on the network of well trodden and well marked trails on Markham Hill! Fun fact: I used to run cross country on these trails when I attended FHS. 😍

We took our time exploring the trails, and thankfully the hotel accommodated our late checkout request. ❤️

Have you been to the Stonebreaker? It’s definitely on my recommended list for locals and visitors! 😍

The workday starts at the desk. It rarely ends there.

Jay Kinney joined the team earlier this year, and if you've been up on the hill lately, you may have already crossed paths with him.

He's a junior studying mechanical engineering, and at first, staying close to campus was the draw. But it didn't take long before it was the people here that kept him coming back for his shifts, the kind of place that feels different from just another job squeezed between classes.

When he's not balancing coursework and work, you'll likely find him out on a mountain bike, trading campus for the trails whenever he can get away.

His order, if you're wondering? The pork chop. Every time.
