When Waiting Feels Hard: Creating Margin in a Busy World
There are moments in life where waiting on God feels almost impossible.
We know what He’s asked us to do… or sometimes what He’s asked us not to do. And yet, when fear creeps in, when pressure builds, or when things don’t move as fast as we think they should—we step in. We try to take control. We try to “help” God along.
I see this so clearly in the story of Saul.
He waited… but only to a point.
And honestly, that hits home for me. I can be obedient—until it gets uncomfortable. Until the waiting feels too long. Until fear, comparison, stress, or the need to produce starts creeping in. Then suddenly, I’m tempted to take things into my own hands instead of trusting God to move in His timing.
But that’s where the danger is.
When we don’t create margin in our lives—space to breathe, to pause, to be still—we open the door for our hearts to drift. What starts as impatience can quickly turn into control. What starts as pressure can turn into fear. And before we know it, we’re operating out of our own strength instead of resting in God’s.
That’s where spiritual warfare often shows up.
Not always in loud, obvious ways—but in the subtle pull. The distraction. The chaos. The constant noise that keeps us from being still with the Lord. It’s anything that pulls our hearts and minds away from Him.
The Bible reminds us there are three things working against us: our flesh, the world, and the enemy.
Our flesh is our own desires and tendencies.
The world is the busyness, the chaos, and the pressure around us.
And the enemy? He wants nothing more than to keep us distracted, overwhelmed, and disconnected from God.
But here’s the truth that brings so much peace:
Because of Jesus, we have power over it all.
We are not fighting from a place of defeat—we are fighting from victory.
So when you feel that pull—the anxiety, the pressure, the need to rush or control—let that be your signal. Not to push harder, but to pause. To step back. To create margin.
Margin to sit with the Lord.
Margin to breathe.
Margin to realign your heart with His.
Because if we don’t create that space, burnout isn’t far behind.
We live in a world that constantly says “do more, be more, keep going.” But God invites us into something different. He calls us to abide. To remain. To trust.
And sometimes the most faithful thing you can do…
is wait.
Wait on Him.
Trust His timing.
And let Him do what only He can do.
