Hey friends —
I wanted to share something with you directly, because I’d much rather you hear it from me than through the rumor mill (which, as we all know, in a small town can be faster than Wi-Fi).
Splitrock is going through a financial restructuring.
If you ran a small business through the pandemic (or honestly, just lived through it) you probably remember the whiplash. One minute everything shut down, the next everything came roaring back, and every decision felt like a gamble. Do you grow? Do you hold? Do you take a swing or play it safe?
I made the best calls I could with the information I had at the time. Some of those decisions worked. Some didn’t. And the ones that didn’t are what led us here.
The important part: Splitrock is not closing.
This process is about cleaning up old obligations, getting the business back on stronger footing, and building a healthier path forward.
And here’s what matters most to you: when you walk through our doors, nothing changes.
Same beer. Same food. Same bike service. Same patio. Same dogs under tables. Same beautiful chaos on a sunny Fairfax afternoon.
If anything, the only thing that might feel different is me looking a little lighter, because carrying this quietly for a long time has been heavy.
The truth is, the last few years haven’t been easy. For us, or for a lot of small businesses. But every time I’ve wondered whether it was time to throw in the towel, I’m reminded why this place exists in the first place:
You.
The regulars who know our staff by name.
The riders who roll in muddy and leave fed.
The families who stop in after school.
The community that has made this place feel like more than a business.
Splitrock has always been about bringing people together — around bikes, food, beer, and community — and that part isn’t going anywhere.
We’re here. We’re working through it. And we’re incredibly grateful you’re with us.
If you want to support us, just keep doing what you’ve always done:
Grab a pint.
Bring your bike in.
Order lunch.
Tell a friend.
That’s it. That’s the whole ask.
Thanks for being part of this.
