Just a reminder to ourselves that we're doing our best, and even a chaos garden can still grow food. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🩷🤍🩵🤎🖤

Life Update:

We no longer have farm animals as of last October, but are continuing to garden and do our best to work on home improvement projects while balancing work, life, family and Ollie's schooling.

Our little family consists of, in order of acquired 😅, Toothless the axolotl (6/7), Raksha the rottweiler mix dog (7), Sieni the tortie cat (4?), Gus the black lab mix dog (2), Navi the white cat (3?), Carnelian the corn snake (6), Butter the tuxedo cat (1) and a handful of ramshorn and mystery snails.

While we may be excited for the true spring, Ace is holding on to the last piece of frozen tundra! After cleaning out the deep mulch bedding, Ollie uncovered the last remnants of winter.

Instead of using a store bought potting mix or buying the plants potted, we decided to order as much as we can "bareroot" and create our own potting mix using what we had around the yard. Our land is a wonderful bog full with a healthy layer of peat moss. This video is Ollie harvesting some of it. He also added a bit of decaying wood and bark to aid in moisture retention and aeration for our plants as we wake them up from hibernation.

We are so excited to have the beginning components to our food forest arrive! We found a lovely little local greenhouse and just potted up 2 Zestar! apple trees, 2 John Elderberry, 1 Pink Champagne currant and 10 Honeyoye strawberries. It is a bit cold here to plant them in the ground quite yet.

During the birth on March 15th I was working in Nashwauk. Ollie had gone out to run errands and came back just in time for the first birth, Nova. As soon as h had her taken care of he video called me so I could be there as well and I got the second birth, Ace on screen recordings!
