Chicken Wing review
At the request of our followers, I decided to head to Rocking Chicken. Now do not be confused by the name, because they advertise themselves as a Latin American Fusion Restaurant. Their menu is wide ranging from Burgers to Tacos to Latin dishes to Wings and Other Chicken. It is also important to point out that it is not a fancy place, it is in an old Long John Silvers building. Which as my Brother pointed out is surprising because LGS never disappear and are like a c**k roach and will likely survive a Nuclear war.
Now in fairness, I had been to Rocking Chicken before and knew what to expect. I ordered the 5 Jumbo Wings and Fries. First it is important to point out that their chicken is baked and then seared on the grill. It is NOT deep fried like your traditional wings you get at a Buffalo Wild Wings or Wingstop. Second, their Jumbo means Jumbo. Using traditional wing standards, when ordering 5 you are actually getting 10. Because one wing is the drummie and the flat, and they are NOT SMALL.
Now that I have prevented you from ordering too much food, a mistake I made the first time, time to get to the review. The fries are very good, just like Rally’s, which I love. The wings themselves are clearly marinated for a period before being finished on the grill. You get 2 sauces with your wings and I went with the spicy BBQ and the Mango Habanero. However, you honestly don’t need the sauces. The wings are so flavorful from the marinade and seasoning they use. I asked them to make mine a little crispy because I like the grill sears on the wings and the crisp skin. I think they forgot to do it, but it didn’t matter because they were great.
Even though you would never predict it, this place might have some of the best wings in the Tri State and they aren’t deep fried. They are right up there with the Smoked Wings I loved at Nisbit. I would definitely recommend giving their Jumbo Wings a try. Especially because it is something unique with the baked and grilled combination. High Score incoming….
