Last night was heavy… Inside the Dugout, it was like any normal Friday night. The place was packed. It was loud. We were moving 100 miles an hour in the kitchen. People were eating, laughing, talking, and making memories…But just 12 feet away, inside the Bullpen, it was completely different. It was quiet, it was somber, it was sad… The Evansville Women's Basketball program was grieving, and rightfully so…. They weren’t there as a team, they were there as a family. They were there for one of their sisters… Jordan Scott, who tragically passed away this week in a car accident. At such a young age and with so much life ahead of her, it simply doesn’t make sense, how could it? I didn’t know Jordan personally… But she was local. She was one of us, and when something like this happens, it affects the whole community.
I know that pain personally. I lost my brother Clint in a car accident just a few short years ago… seems like yesterday really and one of the hardest parts is not getting the chance to say goodbye…And despite what people may tell you…It never gets easier. Ever.. My heart goes out to these young women, their coaches, the University of Evansville, Jordan’s friends, and especially her family and her little sister, who now have to find a way to move forward while carrying a pain no one should ever have to know. It won’t be easy, but it is important to keep going and to wake up everyday with a purpose. For Jordan…to say her name, to tell her story and to keep her memory alive.
Today, we had a beautiful picture of Jordan framed. It will have a permanent place on the walls of Casey’s Dugout…
Because Jordan’s picture won’t just hang on our wall. It will become part of the Dugout itself.. part of the memories made here, part of the stories shared here, and part of the families that gather here. Every time we walk past her picture, we’ll remember her family, her teammates, her friends, and the love that surrounded her. And as long as these doors are open…Jordan will have a home here. From our family at Casey’s Dugout, and from this entire community, we will continue to pray for Jordan’s friends and, most importantly, her family. May you find peace in the memories and we pray you find comfort in one another…❤️💙
