July 25, 1898 marks one of the most significant dates in Puerto Rico’s history.

On this day, U.S. forces landed in Guánica, beginning the military campaign that led to the end of more than four centuries of Spanish rule and the start of a new chapter under U.S. sovereignty.

Today, we remember the people who lived through this historic moment and honor the resilience, strength, and enduring spirit of the Puerto Rican people.

History should never be forgotten—it should be learned, discussed, and passed on to future generations.

We are grateful to share a beautiful addition to Gannon's campus collection: "Moonlight at the Park," by talented local artist Kathie Kania.

This remarkable piece was generously gifted to Gannon by alumnus Chuck Pora '68 and his wife, Pattie. Their thoughtful contribution reflects the deep connection our alumni have to the university and their commitment to enriching the experience of future generations of Golden Knights.

We are thankful to Chuck and Pattie for their generosity and to Kathie for creating a work that captures both beauty and a sense of place. It's another wonderful reminder that the Gannon story is shaped by the people who continue to invest in our community long after graduation.
