Due to health reasons, I have made the difficult decision to close McCoy’s Chophouse in Endicott.
After more than 50 years of owning and operating restaurants throughout Broome County, I feel it is finally time to slow down and enjoy life with my friends and family. As many of you know, I have always had a deep love for the restaurant business, and I’ve had a lot of fun along the way, but my wife, Lisa, and my family would like to see my face in the sunlight a little more often, and truthfully, I think I’m ready for that too.
To all of my staff over the years, many of whom now run or work in restaurants across the area; thank you. The places we built together were more than just restaurants; they became something people still talk about today. While many of you learned from me, I learned just as much from you. At one point, I thought of employees simply as staff. I never could have imagined how many of you would become family, not just to me, but to each other. Watching that happen has been one of the greatest joys of my life.
To all of my customers, thank you for choosing to spend your time with me over the years. Thank you for celebrating your birthdays, anniversaries, and everything in between within our walls. From the iconic dance floors where I sang with Grease Release, to the rock and roll bands, disco parties, and jazz nights that filled the room with energy, those are memories I will never forget.
I hope some of you had the chance to slide down the fire pole before Number 5 closed during COVID. And if you missed it, don’t worry, you’ve got one more chance to stop by and at least visit Miss Lily, also known as “The Naked Lady,” in our back private room.
Please join us this Saturday the 18th for a proper send-off, something we didn’t get the chance to do when Number 5 closed. The bar will be open and we will serve a few dishes, We’ll even have a photographer on hand to capture what I know will be a room full of stories, laughter, and familiar faces.
Come by, share a memory, and give me one last chance to say, “Who are you?”—which, as many of you know, has somehow become my most famous line.
From the bottom of my heart, this has been one hell of a journey. I am grateful for every moment, and I’m finally looking forward to a little rest.
