President Carter’s impact on Salem County Habitat for Humanity has been profound and lasting. When he dedicated our affiliate’s very first home in 1985, he not only marked the beginning of our journey but also set the tone for what Habitat for Humanity could achieve here in Salem County. His personal involvement inspired countless others to join and support our mission of providing affordable housing to families in need.

I had the privilege of meeting President Carter in 2014 at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains, Georgia. During their private meeting, his passion and commitment to Habitat’s mission were evident and deeply motivating.

Since that first home, Salem County Habitat has built 51 homes, expanding our services to include programs for veterans, seniors, and disabled homeowners, such as our Recyclable Ramp Program and Veterans Repair Corps. By helping families stay in their homes, we’re not just providing shelter—we’re preserving dignity and stability for those who are struggling.

President Carter’s legacy reminds us that housing is more than just a roof over someone’s head—it’s about building hope, community, and opportunity. His example continues to inspire us every day.

We extend our heartfelt sympathy to his family, congregation and staff from the Carter Center in Atlanta. May he rest in peace. Oct 1, 1924 - December 29th 2024

Please stop by the Restore to sign the memory door in honor of the many doors that he opened during his lifetime.

Merry Christmas everyone. I have tried to remain humble and silent through these very trying times. Besides my personal triumphs, Thanksgiving day I was severely burned on 33.3 percent of my body. As we do every year we feed the homeless. This year unfortunately I slipped and fell and 5 gallons of 180 degree turkey gravy went from my head down to the right side of my body. It caused 2nd 3rd and 4th degree burns. I have been through 7 surgeries and in and out of crosier burn unit. It’s been a very long recovery but I am home today! Thanks to Martha Neeler, Barbara Rieti, amber Gonzalez, Barbara Biscardi and Chris Marshall. Not to mention the ongoing prayers from my church family and Anita, Margie, Nancy, Carol, Tara, Dan , Joe, Deanne etc… I am sorry for not sharing this sooner and for not being open but through this past year I have learned that taking care of me first is the only answer. I love dodges and I love my customers but this has been a lot. I’ll be be back better than ever! Happy everything !
