These farm-to-family models celebrate all things hand made and hard-harvested; building a direct connection between communities and their local food systems.

Garbage pies were crafted around a humble family kitchen, where anyone was welcome to help and everyone was welcome to linger. The atmosphere was warm, creative and collaborative. Curiosity inspired ingenuity. And what we learned above all else, was that when there's joy in the work, delicious doesn't have to be difficult.

But we are living in a system that directly contradicts this core belief.

Instead of being encouraged to pursue curiosity and experiment with creative expression, we're pressured to systemize. To modernize. To mechanize. To scale. To extract from our beliefs, our ideals and our passions something that can be not only sold, but squeezed. Stretched. Maximized.

But what if we didn't measure success in profit margins and mega-chains?
