Good morning, August 1, I'm feeling much better for the most part and sad as well, this moving and modernization thing has gotten me down out for 2 weeks and I don't know the place, I can't deal with clutter and change as well as I thought I could, I have no place here, no job so to say so I want to take this time to say Thank You to all my customers over the years I truly have been blessed to get to know each and every one, we have laughed and cried together, I'm sure some will miss me and my mouth, others not so much, I'll be around but my posts will go to my personal page, Melba Romanek email is [email protected] as Lena's is no more, for me, I wish Crave the best, knowing I'm leaving good people behind that will hopefully be able to continue I guess it's old dogs new tricks thing, I'm just too old to have this much change this late in my life, I don't know the specials so my posts are really only about me and an occasionally a cat story, I have enjoyed writing and getting your comments and reading them later, sometimes I can't believe I said that, I promise I'll be out and about I would like to do more volunteer work but first I'll be doing some house cleaning, Thank You for your time and patronizing over the years, signing off as Lenas later.........

Good morning, July 29th I'm back, sorta I've been out for the last 10 days a bit under the weather things I've learned in the last 10 days be careful coughing or sneezing and never trust a fart and that about sums it up, sleeping whenever I can as the nights were the worst. I want to thank everyone who was concerned for me and for Natalie and Brian bringing food however appetite just wasn't there, I may have lost a pound or two, but I had it to spare I'm resting now as my first day out, I really feeling my age right about now, but I believe back out into the world of the living will help, after all I live to torment and aggravate and can't wait to see all of you, I'm not sure how long I will stay today so if I miss you today I'll catch you later........

Good morning, July 19th. So, it's my back that has been hurting and has me down, I mowed my yard and guess what it didn't help wasn't about to tackle the trimming so here I am moaning and groaning, I was in my night clothes by 5:30 and down for the count. I'm thinking all this moving around is getting to me seems as those there are giants among us for everything is on the top shelve where it be freezer, walkin or the back room I'm stretched to the max and that 40lb of chicken breast I just put on the stove didn't help oh whoa is me. I heard rumors I might be going with shrimp pasta today for a special if I can find the shrimp, moving anytime is a hassle but I swear this restaurant stuff is something else, combining losing and finding things I forgot I had trying to get our stock matched up, so we have room, replacing shelves with refrigeration is a challenge so if we get a little sidetracked, please cut us some slack Natalie is trying to work 2 kitchens, the stove issue is about to get real so cooking and freezing as much as I can as early as I can remember there is a total of 4 businesses being combined big events happening all around the fair is coming Crave will be working out of a tent selling their famous tacos, all these comings and goings make me tired so that's why I sit which makes my back hurt lounging as though I have nothing to do, oh well I can watch, in the meantime I going to do my stuff while there is no one here in my way later......

Good morning, July 18th. I'm feeling a bit under the weather this morning, but fine for the most part, I think it might be the humidity, talking about smacking you in the face when you go outside, I'm on my own again as you know my niece has been with me for a week but left yesterday it might take a while to ever be normal again, just kidding Abby it was a pleasure to have you, she will be returning this weekend on her way home to Texas never a dull minute at my house I am so fortunate to have nieces and nephews who keep up with me and keep me in the loop with their lives, whoever thought those brothers and sister of mine would have such good kids, and grandkids again, I am so blessed I don't even mind being referred to as the crazy aunt, I need to move along as I'm in slow motion today, so catch you later...... Good morning. July 15th, halfway through July, time is moving on and a tough one for sure, we've been under construction with no end in sight now for the last couple of weeks, which makes things confusing I can't find a $ #@$ thing, yet here we are trying our best to be somewhat normal, serving our customers and keep on smiling, my little outbursts just keep them on their toes lucky for all I come early to get things done, I like it that way as I can't stand confusion or in my space as I'm trying to do something, then I have this moment not my space, not my money and move on laughing all the way for I have come to accept change, stress level is as low as it gets for me, my input doesn't come into play I'm just riding the wave these days waiting to be needed to do something constructive don't get me wrong I believe with all my heart Brian and Natalie have got this and the future looks bright, but so much work, so much happening all at the same time so if you don't see me I'll be the one crying or laughing in the corner probably in a rubber room somewhere, I must move along now and get what I can done before, well before I forget what I do here later.....

Good morning, July 14th. Me trying to stay at home and relax early in the morning is simply not happening so I'm here doing my thing, sitting here relaxing having my coffee knowing I have a plan, I'm finishing the last of those local tomatoes into yet another round of Tomato Salad, thing is I said only if they are ripe to get them, and a man picked them up, now ladies do I need to say more! Now in their defense I was invited to dinner at the bosses home last evening and Brian cooked a delicious meal, we had meatloaf, fried green tomatoes just to mention a couple of country items, plus a blueberry buckle for dessert, his gourmet side showed a mushroom noodle sauce everything was excellent, good food, good company in a beautiful home do I need to say how much I enjoy their company, Natalie is a sweetheart that I take delight in teasing, to be so young and full of energy I see her following in my footsteps and if that doesn't scare her I don't know what will, someone told me I've met my match she wants me to take it easy I don't response well to that, any easier I will have no reason to show up, however you will see me lounging in the front with my customers, chatting away at all my issues and loving every minute as she works her butt off, construction and remodeling doesn't make this job any easier, but a lot of fun for me, so be assure life goes on here with Lena's couldn't be prouder of my crew that is enduring all the changes yet still the fast friendly service is still in tack, Lena's originals still here, new items arriving some slow movers going everyday a new challenge, sharing their lives with me as I share my life with all of you everyday a holiday as the saying goes later......

Good Morning, July 13th. the blinking off and on with electric last evening has made this computer shut down and go wacky thankful that was the worst for me how about you? I have company this week from Texas, Abby is my niece, Tina's oldest we stayed put last night, as she's been with me since Saturday, she fixed dinner and we watched movies even got to bed early, I had forgotten what being 25 years old is like, and I was married and settled in by that age, marrying at 19 I thought I was a women, suzy homemaker well let me tell you 25 today is different and I say to myself was I that silly, did I go, go all the time, television and phone, i-pad and gamer on at all time, I think not, don't get me wrong I love her to the moon and back and she has the world's problems all figured out and sometimes she takes a breath, otherwise she's talking, Lord help me, she's here on a fund raiser mission, you see she's a missioner at a youth camp in Texas, you remember my family makes those p-nut butter eggs usually around Easter, proceeds go to the mission, she's a good girl with a big heart doing God's work, as for me I sending her back corrupted, me being me you know, she's probably hear a few words that might have slipped out but don't worry Tina and Rob she's in one piece. I have laughed and laughed and say to myself, Abby you don't have a clue how life works but hey she's headed in the right direction, I just can't help it if she chooses to stay with her aunt who may or may not be the best to give advice but oh well,
Now as I sit here in the middle of all the humming of the new equipment, I almost forgot to tell you I have my first local tomatoes, actually they are from jersey but tasty so Tomato Salad today, with cucumbers from my garden that's one of the specials today but I'm afraid you will have to call 410-398-0791 to find out what else is going on, so with that being said I will catch you later......

Good morning, July 12th. Well, I would say we're back to normal, but that would be a lie as normal went away, every day is a new adventure there is nothing normal here, just confusing I can't find anything, don't know where to look it's possible it is gone, dumpster gone funny thing is I was the one to toss it, or maybe it was Natalie, I'm blaming Natalie anyway losing shelving to freezers and refrigerators something had to go an still more coming and going we will become a stainless steel compound soon, efficiency is the goal now you know what keeps me going in circles, the new noise of the units is like sitting in the middle of I-95 motors humbling and there are 2 more coming so if you thought I was crazy before you haven't seen nothin' yet. as changes come and go, I sit tight making sandwiches and subs the same old way, and as I sit here thinking or trying to think in the roar of machines changes being made are for our benefit it's just being an old dog in this new world is tough, but being the queen here does come with benefits I get here early and get the first glimpse of what the day will bring, I do my thing on a more relaxed schedule now actually thinking about the comings and goings of Lena's how Joe's parents must of felt when I arrived the changes Joe and I made and now the new revived Lena's with Brian and Natalie at the helm, just knowing I've been here through it all and enjoy it as much as I do and love seeing the kids developing their dream but learning some new stuff along the way, today for example will be Shrimp Pasta and Natalie has baked a Peach delight and a Strawberry and Chocolate delight she's always into something and I love her she has the energy of 10 makes me tired watching and Brian always thinking, designing and loves to cook yesterday I sliced baloney for a fried baloney sandwich I keep reminding them I'm a hillbilly, do hillbilly cooking and low and behold he's from Tenn. as well, so see not so much different except he's on his adventure as I finish mine lots of love here in everything we do so stop in for a taste of the old and the new later......

Good Day, July 10th. Yes it's Sunday I'm in here messing around plugging up refrigerators etc. getting ready to open on Monday, tomorrow July 11th. after a week off I'm sure I don't want to retire to much other stuff going on as for my list I still have, not even close to getting stuff done, I kinda thought that might happen when anyone said go, I went no place particular just was so easy to leave the list behind, I would never get anything done if I was home all the time, working keeps me focused now, speaking of work the new owners with the help of family have been working tireless all week, torn up, torn down the kitchen area especially, what a mess but they're getting there finding a stove and sink is all I need to get the show on the road, it's exciting and heartbreaking at the same time so as confused as I am, it's time to get Lena's open, My time will be short tomorrow morning so consider this as Monday's post, probably can't find a thing, but oh I will be so happy to see everyone I hope I can remember what's first for I don't keep a list here I will catch you all later.....

Good morning, July 1st. Well, the last day before 1 week vacation shop closed, my project list for home is growing as we speak the surprise will be what actually gets done and what once again will be pushed aside, oh well life is meant to be lived, plans somehow doesn't always work out but my intentions are good, at my age it is challenging for any long-range plans and a week ahead is just more than I can handle, my girls (cats) and I are going through a difficult time right now, you see I bought myself a new sofa and chair and I'm trying to teach them it's paw's off, they are even more hard headed than myself, I have it covered with every throw cover I own, they seldom ever would get on the old one, but would use it as their own personal scratching post so water bottle it is, they are not talking to me at the moment so it's pretty lonely at the top, I'll be shampooing carpet next week as that's always fun with them, I can see next week their life will be hell, so wish me luck that I accomplish anything at all, at best they can only hope my cleaning of the pond outside takes me longer than planned, but plans change! With the 4th coming up I want to remind you Crave's truck will be at the park in North East for the fireworks Sunday evening, stop by and see what they have to offer even as Lena's takes our holiday it just doesn't stop for them, they are truly workaholics. reminder to be safe this holiday no matter what your plans are be aware of your surroundings but have fun later.......

Good morning, June 30th. this month is gone already, July arriving tomorrow supposed to be hot, my kind of weather of course I'm not a fan of humidity but better hot then cold. Since I'm bored around here, they won't let me do much of anything, I have to ride on Crave's energy Natelie and Brian are really busy what with the truck, catering, 6min. meals and now the sub shop I really don't know how they do it, but they do it together always cooking, I now am exposed to all kinds of tastes half of which I don't even know, but I'm game I'll try most anything so far I haven't been disappointed that's why they are such a blessing, now with the new computer system that's a different story however Brian has been showing me how he tracks everything being sold, proof somethings need to be adjusted around here and that's ok, so as some changes begin just know it's with my blessing as facts are facts, Brian has been great at keeping with our brands of goods so everything Lena's has to offer is the real deal, if items are not available he checks with me before substituting anything, he bought about 25 or 30 turkey breasts at the grocery store as we still can't find our turkey, fries sales are down so we're switching, these are things that need to be done for the survival of Lena's, we're doing our best but those $ #@$ computers don't lie so I hope you understand, I assure you the traditional items like Rice Pudding, Bar-B-Que and certain other items remain safe and secure as long as you're keep buying, please give new items a try as they arrive, love of the business remains in the hands of folks who deeply care so with that being said I am as surprised as anyone daily as to what the specials are, mainly because I'm never sure which of their businesses is getting what, I just follow the smells, the truck will be out this weekend, there are a few meals in my deli I see this morning not sure if they are sold or not, just follow their posts as well you won't be disappointed as for me here I sit waiting for my coffee to arrive cooking the simply things and enjoying this worry free life I'm living, later.......
