We've been going to Smokin in the Bogs for I don't know how long on Labor Day weekend and now that it has come to an end we had to find some something else to do this weekend. So we are spending the weekend at Whitewater state park to let the Whitewater drum run free in nature. We where hoping that there would be others out in the wild for it to hang out with but sadly all the Whitewater drums must be in captivity stored away in people garages.

So didn't do to shabby at MN in May BBQ contest. Big field of quality cooks, 58 teams and we finished 5th in ribs, 10th in pork and 9th overall and took home some cool trophies. Thanks goes out to my to helpers today, Keith Mack and Bill Pieper for keeping things running smoothly during the cook and turn ins. Shout out to Walmart and Costco for stocking quality cheap meats so I can afford to compete and get calls.

Here’s the Minnesota In May recap from this past weekend.

We welcomed a new team member to help fill in for Sandy this week, as she had to take off Saturday morning. My friend and neighbor Matt stepped right in with minimal training and knocked it out of the park. He started by bringing a couple of PBR’s to keep me hydrated on Friday night. Saturday filled in where needed to make sure everything ran smoothly. With the down pour on Saturday our site developed a lake right in front of the stairs of the camper that was ankle deep. Another contest we will always remember cause of this. Shout out to Craig Grefe and his crew for setting up everything for the 60 master series teams and 40 backyard teams that showed up. Without contest organizers I’d just be cooking in the garage by myself.

So for the results.

Chicken – 16th

Ribs – 47th (Got what we thought on this one)

Pork – 8th

Brisket – 44th (Head scratcher on this one cause it was really good, maybe just a bad table)

Overall – 31st (Ribs and Brisket really hurt us here)

We will give it another try in a few weeks at one of our favorite contest, Bringin’ Home the Bacon in West Salem.

Great weekend at Smokin' in the Bogs. Always a fun filled weekend here with friends and family. Took home some hardware with a 1st place chicken, 8th place brisket and 5th place overall. Kids also competed with Stella taking home 1st in the kids que and Sophia taking 2nd in the dessert category. Congrats to the BBQ Bus on GC and Big E on RGC.

Solid weekend at Bring'n Home the Bacon BBQ contest. It was a bit muddy but didn't slow us down. Day 2 we got a 3rd place brisket call and finished 5th overall. Other meats were just outside the top 10. First SRF brisket I ever got, might have to try another if I'm going to get this result.

Big congrats to day 1 winners Hot Daddy's BBQ for GC and Hogline for RGC and day 2 winners Dry 2 da Bone for GC and Ash Kickin' BBQ on RGC.

Also, shout out to the Tweten's and their crew for all the many hours and hard work they did to put on this contest. Looking forward to next year.

So, last week was exciting with our highest ever placing in a master series contest but this week was even better. Finally got the big check I always wanted. 1st place pork! Also got 11th place chicken and 4th place brisket. Ribs, we will talk about that one another day. Since, this contest is a double gotta get back at it for another day, no time to rest.

First time doing the master series down in Owatonna. We managed to score our highest position ever by getting a second in chicken. Oh, so close to getting one of those big checks I always dream to get one day to hang in the garage. Not sure what happened in the other categories but we will give it a shot next weekend to see if it was a fluke. Congrats to Ash Kickin' BBQ on GC and Wags Backwoods BBQ on RGC. Also congrats to Ugly Baby BBQ for stepping up to the master series and finishing 7th overall.

Uff da, lot of good cooks at Minnesota in May BBQ contest. First time doing this contest for us. Had a pretty good cook but so did most other cooks. Didn't place in the top 10 in any category but oh so close point wise. In the end, when all the categories were scored together we finished a not to shabby 12th out of 59 cooks. Congrats to Son of a Boar on GC and City Slickers on RGC.
