Fraud Alert! A sophisticated wire-transfer zoning scam is once again making the rounds. We have received reports of fraudulent emails impersonating Walworth County zoning staff and elected officials. These fraudulent emails may use our official logo, appear to be sent by Walworth County Board Supervisors and/or zoning and planning staff members, and direct residents to promptly pay an invoice via wire transfer to finalize a zoning permit.

Walworth County staff and elected officials would never send emails requesting wire transfers in exchange for permits. Please do not respond to these notices, and exercise caution with any unsolicited email you receive.

Red flags that indicate the email is fraudulent include:

• Suspicious contact information not affiliated with Walworth County. All emails from Walworth County’s Land Use division end with .walworth.wi.us.
• Unsolicited emails pressuring residents to pay zoning fees promptly via wire transfer. Walworth County’s Land Use division does not accept payment via wire transfer.
• County Board Supervisors will not contact residents on behalf of the County to finalize permits or pay fees.
• Higher-than-usual permitting fees. Our fees are available on our website at https://www.co.walworth.wi.us/547/Zoning.
• Requiring all correspondence regarding permits or applications to be made only via email. Zoning staff may always be contacted by phone at 262-741-4972.

Anyone who receives a suspicious email or invoice should avoid making payments and call the Walworth County Land Use and Resource Management office at (262) 741-4972.

WRA July 2026 housing report released.
Existing home sales rose 8.1% year over year in July, while the median home price increased 6.8% to $360,000.
Year-to-date sales increased 4.9% compared to the first seven months of 2025, with the median price up 6.2% to $345,000.
Inventory remains constrained at 4.2 months statewide, down slightly from 4.3 months last July.
New listings rose 1.3%, and total listings increased 1.6% year over year.
The average 30-year fixed mortgage rate was 6.54%, down 18 basis points from last year.
