Hello to all our CG friends. I hope everyone is well. Unfortunately, I have some very sad news to share with you all. A lot of you knew that Rob has been battling health issues for well over a year and a half. Early Tuesday morning, Rob passed away; he was surrounded by his loving family at his bedside. I’m still trying to process this; it feels like it’s a bad dream. Rob came to work for me when he was 19, along with Mark, who was just 17. They worked Friday and Saturday nights when CG was first located Downtown. He also worked in his early 20’s at our DT location, and then when we opened up in Brittonfield, he worked there early on. When we reopened after Covid, Mark moved to Florida and we were a smaller operation, and we reunited again - it was now just the 2 Deli boys, Rob and Guido. He loved working at CG, he loved our customers, talking sports or busting chops with them, and he loved making their favorite sandwiches or salads. We talked sports all day - SU, his Browns, my Packers - we laughed a lot, shook our heads at times. To be successful in business or life, you need to surround yourself with good people, and I was very lucky throughout my years, and Rob was a major part of that, especially in the last few years. Even when he was sick and hurting, he always came to work, and that loyalty will stay with me forever. Rob recently texted me to wish me a happy birthday and to tell me he loved me. The only regret I have is we were planning to go out to lunch with Mark at the old CG in a couple of weeks, but we ran out of time, and that’s on me. NEVER PUT OFF TODAY FOR TOMORROW BECAUSE TOMORROW IS NOT GUARANTEED. On my last day at CG, he came to be there with me, even though he was hurting. He said, 'If I had to crawl there, I would never have missed our final day at CG.' He told me I was a father figure and mentor to him all these years. Hearing that made me feel so proud that he thought so highly of me. He is now not in pain anymore, so Rob, rest my brother, my friend; you’re at peace. Love you ❤️
