Restaurant Sidney

Restaurant Sidney Sidney by Chef Neil Annis is located in the heart of East Berlin, between York and Gettysburg, on Route 234 in historic Adams County.

The casual yet sophisticated comfort of Sidney has been carefully cultivated from Chef/Owner Neil Annis’ decades of culinary expertise. After attending the Culinary Institute of America and being deemed “most likely to succeed” by his peers, Annis worked in numerous critically acclaimed restaurants throughout the United States and Europe. His restaurant experience includes positions at Aux Beaux C

hamps in Washington, D.C., and Les Célébrités and the four-star Bouley in New York City. Annis took a respite from the restaurant industry after being recruited as the corporate chef of research and development for Unilever. In this position, he helped to create and develop hundreds of branded products, including Ragu, Wishbone and Lawry’s. He re-entered the industry two years later as Chef de Cuisine at the opulent Lespinasse in New York City, earning the coveted four-star rating two months after opening. More critical acclaim followed when Annis, serving as Executive Chef, opened Compass on New York’s Upper West Side, described by the Zagat Guide in 2003 as the “Best New Restaurant in New York City.” The restaurant was also featured on the Today show and in Gourmet, Architectural Digest, and Food and Wine magazines. Annis left Compass in early 2004 and spent six months traveling and reassessing his life goals. Although he was offered high profile positions across the country, Annis decided to come home to his roots and open his own restaurant. Enchanted with Adams County, Pennsylvania’s country charm, in October 2004 he opened Sidney in East Berlin

"Boat drinks, Boys in the band ordered boat drinks
I gotta go where it's warm. Waitress, I need two more boat drinks"
Jimmy Buffett circa. 1979

Some days just call for a boat drink.
And our Terrace Rum Punch fits that exact mood — three styles of rum, fresh fruit juices, and the kind of easy summer energy that makes you think, “I gotta go where it’s warm.”

If you need a little escape, a little sunshine, a little “head‑south‑before-my-dream-shrinks” attitude, we’ve got the glass waiting.

Come drift into summer with us tonight.

We had our very first Book Club meeting this week, and it was such a joy — meeting a few new friends and welcoming a couple familiar faces.

Our next book is Dust Bowl Girls by Lydia Reeder, the true story of a small Oklahoma women’s basketball team during the Great Depression. Reeder follows her great‑aunt, Coach Sam Babb, who recruited farm girls from the hardest‑hit Dust Bowl towns and led them to an unexpected national championship.

We’ll be meeting on Tuesday, July 14th at 5:30 PM to share our thoughts and enjoy a friendly discussion.

This is not a restaurant event — no purchase is necessary to participate. You’re welcome to stay and dine together afterward if you wish.

Please let us know if you will be attending so I can reserve a comfortable space for our group.

Thursday’s perfect pairing: 6 oysters with a glass of champagne — $22. There’s real science behind why this duo sings. Oysters are naturally rich in glutamates, the foundation of umami, while champagne develops complementary amino acids during its long yeast aging. Together, they create an umami synergy that chefs and sommeliers have celebrated for generations.

Even Auguste Escoffier, the father of modern French cuisine, praised the elegance of oysters and champagne — some classics endure for a reason.

Crisp bubbles, briny sweetness, pure chemistry. Join us and taste the pairing that never goes out of style.

We are closed today for our Grapes of Spain Wine Dinner. Since June 2014, our wine dinners have given Chef Neil and his culinary team the chance to step outside their norm and create inspired plates not found on our regular menu.

If you’ve ever wondered what these evenings are like, here’s a glimpse. We begin with fun craft cocktails and elegant hors d’oeuvres delivered to your table. Then Sarah offers a brief look at the featured region, sharing charming, cork‑worthy details about the grapes, the winemakers, the landscape, and the notable figures who once walked those vineyards. Each of the five pairings comes with a touch of history and a few delightful details that bring the wines to life.

We finish with a sweet course inspired by the season and the region, and a final toast among friends, family, and fellow wine lovers.
