To our fellow East Aurorans….our town is about to showcase just why this community is so special. Tomorrow’s parade and fireworks celebration is small town America at its finest.

As we prepare celebrate the liberties we enjoy and defend as Americans this weekend, mark your calendars for three very special free events next week where your role of citizen of East Aurora is highly valued.

Dan Burden will be visiting us and offering his national expertise as a consultant in creating pedestrian friendly communities. These events are free and open to residents.

Hope to see you at one of these events. In the spirit of American cultural anthropologist Margaret Meade, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change a village; indeed it is the only thing that ever has.”

Meet Bari Zeiger of . A couple months ago I was feeling particularly anguished at the state of politics in our country and a thought popped into my mind. We Americans need a sense of agency. A feeling that there is something we can personally do to make something better.

Moments later I called Bari whom I had met and asked her if she would consider teaching a class at the bakery about organic backyard gardening.

To my delight, she answered an immediate and resounding yes.

Over the past 5 Monday evenings, Bari has shared her deep knowledge and passion for tending our own little plots of earth.

Once your eyes have been opened to the brutality of chemical vegetable farming and the way it destroys our soil and poisons our children’s future, you choose differently.

While we often can’t control the corruption and greed that is rampant in our federal government on both sides of the aisle, we can make choices on how we spend our precious time and money.

It’s a vote that matters.

Thank you Bari and the 15 other new friends that signed up. We are all freshly inspired to try our hand at tending a little plot of earth.

This growing season take some time to seek out and support our farmer neighbors. It’s been a guiding force at the bakery for nearly 15 years!

When you buy from a local organic farmer, whose hands are intimately connected to the soil, whose work often begins long before dawn, you nourish much more than yourself.

You support the birds that return each spring, the insects and critters who live in healthy soil, the bees who pollinate our flowers and vegetables and the communities who remember that creating a sense of belonging and place is the true joy we seek.

Thank you Bari. Thank you to all our WNY organic farmers. May our support help you to continue to heal our land and build our communities.

Easter week at the bakery has always been joyful.

A chance for our chefs, bakers and pastry chefs to showcase their craft. Over the years, the bakery has been blessed with incredible talent. We are grateful. Thank you.

On Easter Sunday, the ritual of breaking bread together carries a meaning far beyond the table.

In a world of war, division, and disconnection, the act of breaking bread and sharing a meal becomes a simple yet powerful act of healing.

A chance to sit down and reflect on what truly matters.

I loved watching all of you break bread at the bakery this week. The conversations and smiles and laughter fill my cup.

At the Last Supper Jesus broke bread with his disciples as a gesture of love, sacrifice, and unity.

Deep in our hearts we know these things to be strong agents of change so needed today.

Breaking bread on Easter is about much more than physical nourishment- it is about remembrance and hope and renewal. May those take hold in all of us.

Happy Easter from all of us at the bakery.
