In the late 1800s, where the Sportsmen's Chalet is currently located, there was a horse farm. Located on the other side of the Wisconsin River was a logging camp. The loggers would often bring their horses across the river; sometimes the horses would fall through the frozen river and drown. The bend in the river where the loggers often crossed was nicknamed "Dead Horse Bend." In 1917, a bar was built where the farm once was; the owners of the bar called in Dead Horse Bend, after the bend in the river. In the early 1900s, tourists rode on steamboats up the river and were dropped off at the bar to be picked up by horse-and-buggy to be taken to their summer homes and the resorts they frequented. In 1981, Gary Don and Laurel Frank bought the bar and renamed it the Sportsmen's Chalet on Dead Horse Bend. Gary Don and Laurel quickly began to learn the history of "Dead Horse Bend" and have shared it with many patrons who have frequented the establishment. The Sportsmen's Chalet caters to all ages and serves a variety of food and drink options. The establishment also has water access to the Wisconsin River - perfect for kayakers, canoers, and fishermen alike. The bar/restaurant is also located along a popular snowmobile trail and serves amazing breakfast during winter months. The owners rent out cabins for snowmobiling, hunting and fishing, or a great weekend getaway. Come Sundays for Chicken Sh*t Bingo, a local favorite! The atmosphere is warm and inviting.

What a wonderful Sunday Chicken s**t day. The weather was cool so I decided not to open the out side bar. Chicken s**t time came around and we became the Harley motorcycle bar. 95% of them said they had never been to our bar before or chickens**t. The word must've spread fast about the game and it was one fantastic fun group, great people, and they all had a blast. They enjoyed our wonderful outside setting even with the bar closed. Thank you all for stopping and making it a great day. Thanks to all the new comers and regular's. Couple pictures of the bikers and a few winners. I'm always so busy I can't get pictures. Before we got slammed I was able to do quite a few meat raffles. The rest of the meat from the Lions fundraiser is raffled off. Thanks for buying everyone. One more night of work and a very needed couple days of rest. O yes! Forgot Gary, Rochelle and Arthur picked two buckets of pickles from the garden. Let the canning start on Tuesday, no maybe I will wait to Wednesday. No rest for me. Great weekend!! Bring on the fall and colors.

Gary and I and the St. Germain Lions would like to thank everyone that showed up for the 13 annual Meat and seafood raffle. We all had a fantastic time, lots of winning going on. We were able to give out $3600 in $100 pay offs on the money raffle tickets. If you won and were not here. They will send you a check. Could of had more people here. But everyone that showed up did there best to make it a great success. Thanks to Dawn, Marie and Adam for working the day for us. Could not have done it with out you. And of course the Lions had a great work force show up. Thanks guys.

One more time Dill and bread and butter pickles. Also made two big container's of refrigerator pickles with a little bit of jalapeño peppers in it. Planning on serving them this winter with bloody Mary's Garden still producing but weather will take a toll on it very soon. Working on cheese, broccoli soup and German potato salad for Friday. Got my hands full again also trying to prepare and get things ready for our famous meat raffle for the Lions Club on Saturday. Please plan on joining us. I have close to $3000 in meat coming. And the money raffle. And 50-50 raffle. It should be a great fundraiser. Starts at 1 o'clock, and don't forget we're having our 3rd pound burger special for six dollars so come hungry and thirsty. Hope to see you Friday night and then Saturday for the meat raffle and then Sunday for chicken bingo fun filled weekend for all.

Just a big reminder of the St. Germain Lions meat and seafood raffle being held at the Sportsmen's Chalet on Saturday September 19 th. We also have the money cash raffle which right now we are giving out $3000 in $100 dollar drawings every 15 min. It might be even more by Saturday. Tickets still for sale until sold out. Also look forward to our 50/50 raffle. Hope to see you at 1 pm. P.S. we have burgers on special that day. Rochelle, Dawn and Gary will be waiting on you. Let the fun and winning begin.

This is kind of late, but I wanted everybody to know that I have cream of potato soup and we have some leftover Tenderloin tip with noodles and we have chicken cheese tortellini soup excellent excellent. Now my new pies are chocolate silk, Keylime pie, and lemon meringue pie,. And I just wanted to announce that we will not be open at all this Saturday, tomorrow We have a big private party here. Thank you very much for understanding. Appreciate it. See you on Sunday for chicken bingo 3 o'clock.

Gary and I and our staff would like to thank you for a wonderful Sunday, chicken s**t day. Thanks for your patience with over 500 people here all of you were great and thanks for being good to my staff. I didn't get a chance to get outside and get any pictures of all the people and some of the winners. So if you're a great winner and you wanna post any pictures on my Facebook, please go ahead and do that, the couple I have are from the inside bar. I would like to thank my staff for working there. You know what's off today and making it a great time for all the people that we're here. Gary and I really appreciate all of you and thanks to my son-in-law and my daughter For also working their butts off and all the people that counted the chips after the games . And it's unbelievable. Only one chip was missing after all those chips recounted. And guess what it's been found someone's turning it in tomorrow yahoo.

Well we have finally stopped selling all the clubs tickets for all the fundraisers. And we were about the top sellers for most of the clubs. Now we Have to push the Lions club tickets and meat raffle for Sept. 19th. We have just under $5000, and we give half of it back in $100 draws every 15 min. We still have another two weeks to sell them. I'm hoping to be over $6000. Last year the half we gave away in $100 pay offs was $3400. Stop on over and get your tickets. Hope to see you all on Sept. 19, Saturday at one pm. We will also be offering our 1/3 lb. Hamburger for $6.00. Should be a fun day.I have over $3000 in meat ordered, of course from Edelman meats from Antigo. Mike and his grandson will be here to help out the Lions again.
