It’s that time of year when everyone asks where we get our firewood because it’s so clean you could make furniture out of it! For us, firewood is a year-round essential, and for the past nine years, we’ve been fortunate to source it from a local family farm. There’s a family, right here in Marshfield, dedicated to preserving our agricultural heritage.

What could easily have been turned into a billion condos is instead a beautiful expanse of gardens, tilled fields, and greenhouses, all sustained by honest hard work. There’s a man who still tills the soil with the same antique tractor his father used on the very same land. This is the kind of place where you’d want your kids to have their first job—a place where they’d be the only ones in their class who know how to fix a hydraulic line or understand why a diesel engine needs a plug.

These are the businesses worth supporting. When you shop here—whether you’re picking up firewood or buying a plant for a gift—you’re doing more than just making a purchase. You’re supporting the preservation of the local, family-run businesses that make our New England community so special. These are the places that give us bragging rights when we talk about the South Shore being home.

This is our small business Saturday story. Every year I get to think back on how friggin cool this was. When we embarked on opening our small business we were literally asking complete strangers to support us. We wanted people that we didn’t even know…to buy from us, root for us, then tell all their friends about us. On this day a couple years back through Instagram, we got sent this photo. Joe Perry of Aerosmith, unknowingly to us, had ordered multiple pizzas from our shop. Joe took this opportunity to post that picture to all his social channels and tag our little pizza shop. While we’re truly thankful for the support from all our customers, seeing this unsolicited post from such a legend was mind blowing. This is a memory I now get to share every small business Saturday.
