WHAT DOES “LOCAL” REALLY COST?

Sometimes we see the price of a handmade, homemade, locally produced, or farm-grown item and think, “That’s more than I would pay at the grocery store.”

And that’s fair. But here’s something important to understand:

You aren’t comparing the same thing.

When you shop at a farmers market or local kitchen market, you’re often purchasing products made in smaller quantities, by real people, using real ingredients, with time, care, and craftsmanship behind them.

You’re supporting:

-Local farmers
-Locally grown produce
-Homemade baked goods
-Small-batch food producers
-Handmade specialty foods
-Local artisans and makers
-Small businesses and creatives
-Entrepreneurs building something from the ground up

And behind every product are costs customers may never see—ingredients, packaging, equipment, permits, insurance, market fees, transportation, preparation time, labor, and countless hours of work.

That $8 jar isn’t just $8 worth of ingredients.

It represents the cost of making it, packaging it, the expenses of running the business, and the livelihood of the person who created it.

Small businesses also don’t have the buying power of large corporations.

A grocery store may purchase thousands of units at wholesale prices. A local maker may purchase a few dozen ingredients or supplies at retail or small-business pricing.

That’s a very different business model.

So the next time you walk through a local or farmer’s market, don’t just ask:

“Why does this cost more?”

Ask:

“Who made this?”
“Where did it come from?”
“What went into making it?”
“Who am I supporting when I purchase it?”

Because when you spend $20 at a local market, that money has a very different journey than $20 spent with a large corporation.

It helps a local entrepreneur buy supplies, a farmer continue growing, a maker keep creating, a small business pay its bills, and someone pursue a dream.

It keeps money circulating right here in our community.

I know everyone’s budget is different, and I’d never tell anyone what they should or shouldn’t spend.

But I will continue educating our community about the value behind local, homemade, handmade, farm-grown, and small-batch products.

Because local isn’t always the cheapest option.

But local is an investment.

An investment in people.
An investment in small business.
An investment in the community.

So when you shop remember:

You’re not just buying a product. You’re supporting someone’s work, passion, and dream.

Shop local.
Know your makers.
Know your farmers.
Know the story behind what you buy.

Let’s Talk About the New Creedmoor Kitchen and Farm Market!!

I’ve gotten quite a few questions about where you can now find Plumpeez products, so I wanted to explain it in the easiest way possible!

Think of Creedmoor Kitchen & Farm Market as a local marketplace where you can shop from multiple local businesses all under one roof.

FAQ:

-What exactly is Creedmoor Kitchen & Farm Market?

It’s a marketplace made up of local vendors offering a variety of products. It’s not just food!

You’ll find different vendors selling things like honey, handmade goods, health & beauty products, specialty foods, gifts, farm products, and all kinds of unique finds.

Basically…you never know what you’re going to discover! 👀

-Is it a Plumpeez store?

Nope! 😊 Plumpeez is one of the local vendors inside the market. That means you can shop Plumpeez products along with products from other local small businesses.

-What Plumpeez products can I find there?

I’ll be stocking a rotating selection of Plumpeez favorites, including items that are perfect to grab and take home. The selection may change, so you may find something different every time you stop by! I will be posting items when I restock them as we go.

-Do I have to order from Plumpeez ahead of time?

No. One of the best parts about having products at the market is that you can walk in, browse the vendors, and shop what’s available.

-Is everything in the market made by Plumpeez?

No. There are multiple independent local vendors, each with their own products and specialties. Your purchase supports a whole community of small businesses—not just one.

-Why should I visit?

Because shopping local doesn’t have to mean making five different stops! You can come in, grab something from Plumpeez, discover a new local business, and see what else catches your eye. There are so many great options to choose from!

-What should I expect when I walk in?

Think:
-Local shopping
-Farm & local products
-Specialty foods
-Variety handmade goods
-Small businesses

A little bit of everything!

And honestly, that’s the beauty of it.

You come in looking for one thing… and leave with five things you didn’t know you needed. 😂

So if you’ve been wondering “What is this Creedmoor Kitchen & Farm Market everyone keeps talking about?”

Now you know! Feel free to share.

And if you’re looking for Plumpeez products, this is one of the places you can find us.

Come support local. Come discover something new. Come shop small. Check out the pics that I’ve taken to showcase all of the goodies right in the neighborhood!

We had the pleasure of participating in a fundraiser hosted by Triangle NACE, National Association for Catering & Events, yesterday and we had a great time! This was a pairing event for savory or sweet food items and a drink of choice. The theme was glamping.

I made a triple chocolate brownie with graham cracker dust, toasted marshmallow, and topped with gold flakes. These were paired with amazing beer provided by Black Creek Brewery located in Roxboro. We had an IPA that brought out the richness and depth of the chocolate and a rice lager that brought out the sweetness of the bite. Never thought about pairing that I bet. 😉

Thank you so much to Black Creek Brewery for their generous donation. If you aren’t patronizing them you should be. Amazing products!

Thanks for having us NACE of the triangle! We’ll for sure be back next year!
