Our June Nonprofit of the Month is Me Fine Foundation! ❀

Since 2004, Me Fine has been providing financial and emotional support to families with children experiencing a medical crisis at North Carolina partner hospitals β€” because when your child is fighting for their life, the last thing a family should have to face alone is the stress and financial burden that comes with it.

Their name honors a brave little boy named Folden Lee IV, who was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia at just two years old. No matter how hard his treatment days were, whenever someone asked how he was doing, his answer was always "Me fine!" Folden passed in September of 2004, and his friends and family founded Me Fine that same year so other families facing life-threatening childhood illnesses would have a community of support behind them.

Today, Me Fine serves families at Duke, UNC Children's, and WakeMed hospitals, offering financial assistance and emotional support. At the heart of everything they do is a simple but powerful belief: Families Come First.

No one can change what these children are forced to endure medically β€” but through combined effort, the burdens on their caregivers can be eased, making their countless days in the hospital a little easier to endure.

This June, $1 from every monthly special sold will be donated to Me Fine. πŸ’•

A bittersweet one, friends! 🎸

Open Mic is taking a break this summer, which means this Thursday is Cole's Last Open Mic. Grab your guitar (or your keyboard, sax, flute, jokes, etc.) and show him some love from 6:30–9pm (sign-up starts at 6pm).

A huge thank you to Cole for making our Open Mic such a welcoming space for artists to get back to performing β€” or just try out a new song. Help us send him off with a bang this Thursday! 🎢

Pride Month is just around the corner and we're celebrating with SCIENCE! 🌈πŸ§ͺ We're so excited to welcome Nik Narain & Stormie Daie to our outdoor stage for The Science of Rainbows β€” Friday, June 5th from 7–8pm. Get ready for colorful demonstrations, hands-on learning, explosions, and more…in drag! πŸ‘‘

Stormie Daie is a daughter of Durham's House of Coxx β€” Durham's social justice drag family. Whether she's wowing crowds on stage, lightning-fast on the mic, or hosting her Science with Stormie series, Stormie is a torrential force of energy, education, and entertainment. A queen for community first and a good time always!

Nik Narain (he/they) is a writer, comedian, science communicator, and drag artist based in Durham. A Duke grad with degrees in Physics and Visual Media Studies, Nik works at the intersection of art, science, and community β€” with a background in neuroscience research, K-12 STEM teaching, and LGBTQ+ and Mental Health advocacy. He's currently an Arts Entrepreneurship Fellow with the City of Durham, organizing initiatives for youth creatives.

Free & open to all. See you in June! 🌈

🚨 Grilly Grinder PSA 🚨

We’ve heard there’s some confusion and we’re here to clear it up! The Grilly Grinder on our night menu is the SAME sammie as our OG Grilly Cheesesteak β€” just with options. Want it with chicken? Done. Want it vegan? Also done. πŸ™Œ

And on Mondays (that’s TODAY!) the Grilly Grinder is our daily special, which means it’s available all day until the kitchen closes at 4pm.

So now you know. Come get one! πŸ₯–

Celebrate National Bike Month with the Watts Hillandale/Old West Durham Community Bike Swap on May 31st from 12-5pm!

This is a community organized event to bring bicycle enthusiasts together to buy, sell, trade, or donate their used, but still useful bicycles, bicycle parts, accessories, and clothing.

Anyone is welcome to come and buy, sell, or trade! Here are a few guidelines:

- Space for selling is limited and will be allocated on a first-come basis.
- Feel free to put up a canopy, but due to limited space, we ask that you be prepared to share space if you have extra.
- Everyone is responsible for their own items and security. Neither the organizers nor the venue will be held responsible for missing or stolen items or money.
- Items left afterward will be collected and donated to the Durham Bike Co-op.

We hope that you can join us and find some new treasures, get rid of some old stuff, and at the very least, have a good time!
