The Freedom Cafe, Durham

The Freedom Cafe, Durham Coffee. Food. Community. A local café raising awareness & creating space for connection. Durham, NH - Open: Sun-Fri

The Freedom Cafe is an innovative non-profit cafe which directs its proceeds toward the cause of ending human trafficking and the commercial exploitation of all people. We are local leaders in specialty coffee and tea, a growing music venue, and an educational center aimed at helping our local community create a slave-free world. Our location at the edge of the University of New Hampshire campus g

ives us the opportunity to be a hub of student life, as well as a landmark for the local community. The model is fairly simple. Each coffee, tea or espresso drink is served for free. We suggest donations based on fair market value. Because we are run primarily by volunteers and our building space is donated, we are able to cover our basic supply costs (ethically sourced coffee, tea, cocoa, cream, sugar,) for about a dollar per cup. When customers make a fair market donation, or give what they would normally pay at a cafe, every cent OVER that first $1 supports our featured non-profit organization. Our model is only made possible through the donated time of our Volunteers—Freedom Workers—and the donated space of the Light House Student Ministries building. Regular educational and artistic events in our cafe space are a primary tool for creating a more informed and engaged community around this issue. If you are interested in getting more information about the Café and human trafficking, like our page for updates. Please contact us at [email protected] for more info.

Featuring “bright florals, brown sugar sweetness, and a crisp, spring-like vibrancy” drop by for a pour over through the month of April.

We’re excited to feature “Valley Ride” from Brandywine Coffee Roasters—a vibrant washed coffee sourced through the Young Producer Program with Unblended Coffee.

Grown at La Cumbre in Cauca by Alejandro Ariza and Andrés Martínez, this lot is about supporting the next generation of coffee producers - building consistency, refining their craft, and creating new opportunities in specialty coffee.

Grateful for partners like and who are investing in both quality and the future of coffee producers. ☕
