The Frying Dutchman is stepping up to support American Red Cross disaster feeding operations, and we need our community's help to make a difference for families in need!
We are currently running two Independent urgent community drives alongside our disaster response efforts:

​Hey Marion, Citrus, and Levy County family!

​As active members of this community, we believe in showing up when our neighbors need it most. We are proud to share that The Frying Dutchman is officially approved as part of the Disaster Feeding response team to mobilize and feed families when emergencies strike across Marion, Citrus, and Levy Counties!

​When a disaster hits, families face immense stress. Alongside our mobile kitchen operations, we are independently organizing a community-funded relief drive to collect and distribute essential supplies free of charge to those affected.

​To make sure our station is ready to serve families safely, we are gathering essential gear:

​⛺ Station Gear: Canopies, folding tables, drink coolers, and hand sanitizer.

​We are also focusing heavily on family care:

​🍼 Infant Care & First Aid: Essential baby supplies, single-serve pain relievers, and first-aid gear.

​🎒 "Comfort Backpacks" for Kids (Ages 5–12): We want to give displaced children a small piece of comfort that belongs just to them. Each backpack includes a small blanket, a stuffed animal, an LCD writing tablet, coloring books, crayons, and a few fun pirate toys.

​📦 Drop Off Donations: Prefer to donate physical items? Bring them to us at our regular spot at the Chiefland Farmers and Flea Market on Saturday & Sunday from 8 AM to 3 PM, or message us to arrange a pickup!

​🚚 Transport & Heavy Lifting: When the call comes in, we need volunteers with a truck and enclosed trailer to help transport supplies and assist with setup/breakdown on-site.

​🤝 Boots on the Ground: We need a strong team of local volunteers to help distribute all of our donated relief items, as well as hands to assist with handing out water, flatware, and hot meals.

So true!!

💲 "Why is food truck food so expensive at big events?" We hear this question a lot, and the answer may surprise you.

When you visit a large festival, fair, concert, or community event, you're not just paying for the food—you're also paying for the cost of participating in that event.

Many event organizers charge food trucks:
🌮 Booth or vendor fees that can range from hundreds to thousands of dollars.
⚡ Additional charges for power, permits, parking, and waste disposal.
💳 Some events even take a percentage of each vendor's sales!!! This is on top of the flat fee.

On top of those event costs, food truck owners are also paying for fresh ingredients, labor, fuel, insurance, commissary kitchens, maintenance, credit card processing fees, and licensing.

The result? Food prices often have to be higher than what you'd pay if you visited that same food truck at a corporate or community lunch stop or other weekly gathering.

If you want the best value, support your favorite food trucks during their regular weekly locations. You'll usually find the same great food at lower prices because the overhead is much lower.

Food trucks aren't trying to overcharge customers—they're simply trying to cover the significant costs of doing business at large events while continuing to serve fresh, high-quality meals.

The next time you see a food truck at a festival, remember that your purchase is supporting a local small business that has invested a lot just to be there. ❤️
