David “Dave” Schultz

age 76, of Goodman, (formerly of Dunbar, WI) died unexpectedly Sunday September 11, 2022, at Froedtert Hospital with his family by his side. He was born in Whitewater on March 19, 1946; son of the late Forrest and Adele (Roe) Schultz. Dave attended Joseph A. Craig High School in Janesville and graduated in 1964. He furthered his education at UW-Madison, earning a B.S. degree in animal science in 1968. Dave met the love of his life, Diana Jamison in 1972 and they were united in marriage on September 11, 1976 in Somers, WI. Dave was employed at Kenosha Beef in which he held many management positions there until 1986 when he and Diana purchased the former Jerry’s Bar in Dunbar renaming it North Country Inn. After 35 years, Dave and his wife Diana retired on Sunday May 30, 2021 and were enjoying retirement traveling and spending time with family and friends. Dave was an avid story-teller and loved talking with everyone; he was a pioneer for the Dun-Good Riders Trail system and involved in many clubs and organizations as well. He enjoyed loving his grand-dogs, Roxy and Stella and Hades, trap-shooting, hunting, fishing, everything outdoors, gardening and traveling. Dave was an intriguing man with knowledge in so many areas. He was such a fighter through his many medical ailments and an inspiration to many.

Dave is survived by his wife, Diana; daughter, Nicolle (Michael) Lorbiecki, Appleton, WI; Cordell Powers, who Dave loved like a son, Kingsford, MI; grandsons: Parker (Theresa) De Los Santos, Wausaukee, WI, Blake and Hunter Lorbiecki, Brown Deer, WI; twin great grandchildren: Jensen and Josephine De Los Santos; sisters-in-law: Rachel (Mark) Schlenvogt, Daggett, MI, and Barbara Morrison, Grand Junction, CO; brothers-in-law: Chris Jamison, Goodman, WI, and Danny (Debi) Jamison, Iron Mountain, MI; many nieces and nephews and special friends he considered family. He was preceded in death by his brother and sister: Norman and Phyllis.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial gathering at the Dunbar Sportsmen’s Club, N19087 Airport Road on Saturday October 1, 2022 from 9am until the Celebration of Life Service at 1pm. Pastor Gene Wickman will officiate.

The family would like to send their sincere appreciation to the hospital staff at Marshfield/DCH ER & ICU, Aurora-Green Bay and Froedtert ICU’s

In lieu of flowers, monetary donations may be made to Pembine-Dunbar-Beecher Rescue Squad, PO Box 220, Pembine, WI 54156 or DeYoung Family Zoo, N5406 Co Rd 577, Wallace, MI 49893.

It is with an overwhelmingly devastated heart that I have to make this post.

Dad took his last breath at 9:45pm 9/11/22 with mom, me and Michael holding him. He was in no pain at that time. Although heavily sedated, we know he could hear us when we told him it was ok to stop fighting if he was tired.

He was the STRONGEST man I have ever known and yet had the softest heart.

Obviously, mom, me,Michael, Cordell and our family are lost, exhausted, in pain, have no idea where we are right now BUT we all know one thing for sure… he LOVED us all with his entire being and it was reciprocated on our side. He is our world and we don’t quite know how to do this without him but he will help lead us down this new path.

Although a rocky road, we are so happy that he was strong enough to have his transplant which gave us 5 more amazing years with him. Those 5 years where a whirlwind of amazing things for him. He was able to walk me down the aisle, finally retire, travel & enjoy some of that retirement with mom, spend time with his beloved grandson, Parker and see his twin great-grand children born, spend time at his favorite place, Camp and watch as we started the next chapter there.

We appreciate all of the love and friendship from each and everyone of you and please know that you all held a very special place in his heart.

We are working on arrangements and will post that update when things are finalized.

A huge shout out to Chopper & Band O’ Barley for knocking it out of the park on music!
Lots of tears shed, lots of reminiscing but a whole lot more laughter.
We’ve had a good run. It’s going to be strange but wonderful.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! We love you all.

CUSTOMER APPRECIATION - RETIREMENT BASH / LAST HOORAY
SATURDAY MAY 8th 5pm -bar close

It is with extremely mixed emotions that I announce the sale of North Country Inn which also finally means retirement for Dave & Diana. Although we don’t have a definite last day yet, it’s coming this month.
We’re excited for the new owners Ken & Culleen Hein and hope nothing but the best for them on their new ownership journey!

We’re excited and nervous and at the same time, heartbroken. This is the last page in the 35 year chapter The Schultz’s have had here in Dunbar. We can’t even comprehend what life looks like without this bar. This town. All of you people. But we’re thrilled to be able to spend quality, family time together.

So... here is to 35 years of adventures, stories, laughter, lifelong friendships. Good times and bad. Unbelievable shenanigans. Amazing employees. AMAZING patrons. The Parties. The Hangovers (ugh). More stories & laughter and the customers that have become like family.

Leaving here hurts right down to our core. We literally don’t know anything other than this place and being bar owners. This bar is what shaped us all into the people we are today. Missing you all will be the most painful part.

We thank you, from the bottom of our hearts for 35 wonderful years of business. We will never forget you.
Love- Dave, Diana & Nikki
